Hi,
I dealt with PC Palace for 10 years now but since the beginning of 2011 their service went down the drain. Everything I order takes 5 weeks and more to be delivered. It seems PC Palace is going down fast.
Is there any reliable place in Pretoria where we can purchase HW & SW that is competitive in pricing?

Don't know about software, but for hardware, Titan-Ice. Very good prices normally and they have some brands that are difficult to find elsewhere. Great for gaming & enthusiast hardware. Only problem is they don't accept credit cards :wtf:, you have to pay by EFT or cash.

Also, Ecomp in Hatfield is pretty good, they sell the more business-type stuff if that's what you're looking for.

Not anymore :(

I think Esquire might have a branch in Pretoria. Their prices are normally decent, and pretty good when they run their specials, which is quite often. You have to be an IT company (reseller) to buy from them, or a large corporate, though I think that MyBB members can also purchase from them using a special code. Search the forums for more info.

Yes, their prices are good, just never try to return something, they have the worst after-sales support of the lot, plus the nearest to PTA is the Midrand branch...

:( Sad Panda

All of them or just the Hatfield one? I know for example they had a branch in Brooklyn Square as well...

Whutnow? Aaahhh, you mean "The-Square-at-Brooklyn-Where-The-Cafe-Crowd-Hangs-Out-In-Their-Labelled-Splendour"? :D

For hardware, I'd use Titan Ice, as it's close to my house

Hi There

I have mentioned several times that I agree that we do not have the infrastructure to support end user public that expect 5 star treatment at the prices we sell , for that we always recommend that end users purchase from a retailer that mark-up between 20-30% margin as they build that type of service in to the prices of the product.

I have also said many times that I had personally oversee the warranties and RMA department, and look at it as a challenge to make sure that our warranties and technical support is on par or if not better than others in South Africa.

I also acknowledge and concede defeat that we cannot please everyone but we continually try to be better and find ways to improve on them.

As a distributor and importer we are also bound by policies and procedures that are given to us by our vendors and if we feel that this is unfair, we continually address these issues with these vendors and pass the benefits to our clients.

Since we moved into our own building 4 years ago we have a “Post Mortem of the week “ where we address warranty and technical issues on weekly basis.

When it comes to warranties of items there also has to be some reasonability, as we cannot, swop-out motherboards that are burnt or have Pins damaged , or HDD drives that have damaged SATA connectors , these first have to go the
vendors for inspection before a decision is made , but we always go out of our way to find solutions to these issues and continually addressing them with these vendors.

We are one of the few distributors in this country that honour the full manufactures warranty on items such processors, hard disks ,memory etc. where others give one year and expect you to do the shipping to that vendors at your expenses for the rest of the warranty period.

I am sure many of you have visited our FireSales, these items in the FireSales are warranty items that we either swopped out or got them back from vendors that claim no fault found which we have already swopped for our clients that is why we sell them way below cost.

As a distributor and importer that started 11years ago we have seen a huge demand for our products and services over the years, more than we expected and have made mistakes but address them to this very day.

Every branch manager and all my staff at all my branches know that I am serious about our service to our clients and will go out of their way to make sure an issue is addressed and be reprimanded if they don’t.

I am always here on the MyBB Forum and if anyone has issues with any branch or any service related issue , I am always here to sort it out , show me any other distributor or importer that does this ? ( I am not referring to retailers or E-tailers).

I hope that this misconception that we do not offer any warranties or that you will have a hard time when bringing things back to us for warranties is put to rest as it is just not true.

If this was true I would not have clients that still purchase from us today that started when we were in a house in Centurion as a three man operation that still purchase from us to this very day.

We would not be doing over 1200 invoices per week and over 500 invoices on a public holidays, (Just checked our telephone logs get an average of 500 calls per day in MIdrand alone).

We would not be able to sell 300 Samsung Notebooks in four hours like we did yesterday( Monday 23rd May 2011).
If we had another 500 units would have sold them too.

We would not be have over 30-40 registrations per day from people that want to purchase from us.

I am always here so if you do have an issue with our service or any other issue please PM me I always here to help.

Best Regards
Mahomed Cassim

Mohamed Cassim,
We are a manufacturing business in Rosslyn Pretoria, I'm not a member of MyBB, how can I directly buy from you?

Open a commercial account? I am sure they are open to that.

I suspect that this is going to become "That Thread"...You know the one that was deleted a while back.

Dear Mr Cassim,

Many many years ago, you were involved with a tiny little shop in Sunnyside, Pretoria - Micro Matrix if memory serves.

Your business practices were not that honest back then and I suspect that they are not all that honest now.

Perhaps the branded products e.g. Intel are the real deal, but so many other products are Fong Kong rubbish. I used to buy from Esqure, but after so many product failures and problems returning or exchanging stock, I decided that my money & time were better spent elsewhere.

Good luck to your customer's new & old who haven't yet had the priveledge of trying to deal with 'Customer Service' it is a complete nightmare.

Thank you for your comments

I am the first to admit that our warranties department was never on par with other distributors and I never hide that fact and yes we do sell value product items , as that is what the market demanded at the time , but I can honestly tell you the failure rate was between 1-2% and nothing so different today with the world class branded stuff we import today.

Just for your information everything that we sell and everything you purchase from other distributors , even the branded products come out of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan factories ,Sure they have better quality control checks and that is why we moved on to those products as the market now demands those type of products from us , but we still have those value products , it it for that reason we have multiples of similar items so that the client can make a choice on what to purchase.

If you have been in this business as long as I have , you will know that even the best of best breed of products break down and have failure rates – just check out the forum and threads, but it is how you deal with that issue , that is why I have said that I am personally in charge of the warranties and RMA department to make sure that we deal with issues quickly as possible or find solutions that both parties are happy with.

So again I am mentioning that if there is issues with our service let me know about it so I can fix it , but if you expecting me to swop out a motherboard that is burnt , or a HDD that is physically damaged and want us to swop it out immediately ,or want us to take back an items that is opened and used for credit well that we cannot do as no one in this industry does that , Even if you spend millions a month with that supplier as they too follow the policies and procedures of their respective vendors.

Sure many have done that to buy the business but they not with us any longer ,or have already change their policies to be in line with industry norms.

Yup, it's Little Cape Town. Only with straight people. And parking.

There used to be an Ecomp there, on the top level, somewhere near the post office.. was a few years ago though...

Besides a BT Games, there are no more computer shops in either the Brooklyn Square Mall or Brooklyn Mall. There is however a Computer Corporation on the corner of Duncan & Charles street.

Service Matters

Is there any known alternative to eComp in Pretoria, I've got a long lamentation about the arrogance and incompetence of PC Palace which I'll spare you all, but are there any companies which have proven themselves? If the Boerewors Curtain still hangs heavy, where do Midranders/Joburgers get the best service?

Try eveTech. I know they've been around for quite some time.
