Do I need to upgrade my Graphics Card?

Hi All,

I am in the process of upgrading part of my system and was wondering if I could lay-off upgrading my graphics card until I have more money. I currently have an ATI RADEON HD 3800 SERIES card and I am upgrading the following:

- CPU: from a dual-core AMD to a 6-core AMD 64-bit
- Motherboard to suit AM3
- RAM from 4GB to 8GB
- Windows from XP to Windows 7 64-bit

Can I leave my card for now?
 
I would get a new one, but depends on what you are doing with the PC. A HD3800 is just not gonna cut it for gaming. MS Office will work pretty well though :D
 
Whats the primary use of the computer?

But I'd say scrap the AMD and get sandybridge.. And do you really need 8GB of ram.. 4GB is still plent for most applications...
 
I know a better one will be great for gaming - but I don't game much at all. I use the machine mostly for photoshop and 3ds max, hence the bigger CPU and 8GB of RAM.
 
How urgent is this? Bulldozer is literally just around the corner. When reviews of that come out compare it to Sandy Bridge and then make a decision.
BTW - current AMD chips dont do so well in Photoshop iirc
 
WOW !! Must say that the Intel Core i7 2600 Processor seems amazing - may be worth the extra cash ???:confused:

Like he said if you can wait you should to see what Bulldozer offers in comparison to Sandy Bridge.

Yes, they are much better than current AMD offerings. Even an i5 2500/2600 would be a better option right now. I would not buy the current generation AMD stuff.

EDIT: I forgot about your specific applications, maybe a 6-core AMD would be better for you than a 4-core Intel. I really don't know. Maybe you should look for benchmark reviews for those applications you use and see on which systems they perform better.

.... and I must say that the i5 2500 is a MUCH better performer (for the same price!) .... think I need to move to Intel.
