warranty vs KM gaurentee

Hi

my car has just gone in to get the gearbox repaired for **** loads of money
and was just wondering on the following

a vehicle warranty states 3/5 years or 100/150 000 KM's (depending on the deal)
my car has just come out of warranty in December 2010 with 60 odd thousand on the clock

and was talking to some friends who said i should fight paying for the repair because in theory the car would never have made it to 100,000 in the first place

was just wondering if i have a leg to stand on here?
and if i do can i fight the battle after i have paid for the repair?
 
It's first come I beleive, so either your vehicle is x number of years old or has done x number of kms, if you hit either one, warranty is up irrespective on how much you have on the other limit.
 
Yea - either/or unfortunatley.

I know some garages that pay a percentage as good faith ... but there's zero obligation on their side
 
Gearbox going at 60K km??? Gearboxes can often outlive the engines.

Automatic? what car is it?
 
I know RunX RSI has issues with the 'box and it could go at 60,000km :/
 
I think the government should stipulate that all vehicles sold in South Africa must have a minimum of a 100,000km guarantee on defects.
60000km is almost brand new - mind was well be 5000km for all the difference it makes.
So much for Toyota being reliable. :whistle:

You mean your dealership wouldn't even contibute as an act of good faith? ;)

I'll have to stick to Volvo ...

Quite possibly would, and we certainly have done so in the past - but each case is taken on merit, and the whole history of the car has to be reviewed first. ;)

They have no idea what they're missing!

Btw - Toyota must have an issue with gearboxes during that time, because mine was a 2006 RunX RSI and although it wasn't damaged, it didn't feel as good as when I bought it. A quick Google showed it was common

Interesting that you say that, as ALWAYS battle to get a decent price on a Volvo - for some weird reason, the Traders are scared of them!

I know they have shocking resale :/

A very good thing for those of us buying used though ;)

But ask most people have that have one and drive one, they more than likely love the car. My stepfather has driven and owned a ton of different cars - including a few Volvos - and love them above most cars.

Admittedly - neither of us have had a Suburu though ;) Maybe I'll consider one day ....

We'll have to get you guys into a Suby....they get under your skin, and once you've had one, you don't want anything else!! ;)
