Has anyone got one of these, and how do you rate them, compared to any other gaming mouse?

Some sites say it's the best gaming mouse ever, and others (all American), just go on about the Razer Mamba or Imperator (which they pronounce "Im-puh-raider" lol) or the Logitech G9x.

I've never had a G9 myself, but I've tried it in a shop and I'm not a big fan of the shape, even though I know Logitech products are usually quite solid.

I don't like Razer at all, since I had a Copperhead before and it wasn't great to be honest, the cursor started jumping about at random times etc, it felt very light and cheap (even though it was quite expensive) and the drivers were beyond terrible. Apparently they've upped the build quality now with the Mamba etc. but the last solidly built Razer product I saw was the original Boomslang.

Now my real question is, if anyone owns one of these, what is the build quality like, because I want it to last a few years. The same American sites say it feels cheap, but the impression I get is it's probably the least "plasticky" mouse around, since it's got a proper aluminium frame. The reviews that seem more honest say it's very solidly built. For the price, it better be..

Got the Rat 9 here. Basically the only negative (?) thing I can say is that its weight takes some getting used to, even with none of the extra weights loaded, but that could just be me. Regarding 'plasticky' feel, I guess you'd be better of testing for yourself, but I'm pretty sure this mouse will last ages build-wise even with a rough handed owner. Pretty much an awesome mouse all round. Can't vouch for Razer though.

-forgot to say the precision aim button is nothing short of bloody epic :)

I tried the Roccat Kone before but I also found they feel quite cheaply made. Not as bad as the older Razers or Steelseries' but still. I also didn't like the shape, not a good fit for my hand. I ended up getting the R.A.T 7, and I learned 2 things:

Firstly, the Sidewinder mouse I had before was complete crap (actually I already kind of knew that).

Second, all American hardware reviewers and forum members are spotty 15 year-old brats who don't know wtf they're talking about and just want to rage about something because the adults do it. They complain about the most retarded stuff you've ever heard. Like with the Sidewinder X6 keyboard, they were bitching about the fact that you can't press Ctrl, Shift, Alt, and SIX other keys together without one of them not being registered. Who in the ever-loving **** is ever going to do that in a game or anywhere else?

This mouse is just epic, the build quality is far better than anything I've ever seen, including the Logitech G5, which was until now the best-made one imo. We often say "they don't make 'em like they used to", well this is how they used to make them. Even the cable is thick and has a braided sleeve. This is the first mouse that actually feels really good (after some adjustments) in my hand, after the G5 and the Boomslang. They actually did some proper research into ergonomics when designing this thing. I wanted to buy the Logitech G9x, because Logitech stuff is normally quite tough and the G5 was the best mouse before, but the G9/G9x isn't really a successor imo, it's not very comfortable to use and doesn't have the same quality feel to it.

In short, I want a gaming mouse to be comfortable for long use (unlike the Sidewinder), and do the basics really well (unlike most Razers I've seen). I don't want gimmicky stuff like pointless LCD's, pointless keyboards for your thumb, or very pointless mode-adjustable scroll wheels. I love the fact that it's a bit heavy, it feels less jumpy, I use 2 extra weights in it (12g) and it's perfect. Oh and yes the sniper button is awesome, I had the same thing set up on the Sidewinder's top thumb button, but this one's positioning is just perfect.

I'd say this is currently the best gaming mouse out there, but unfortunately isn't getting the attention it deserves because of aforementioned idiotic reviews and also the high price, which has always been a problem with Saitek's Cyborg line.

Stay away! I had one of those rodents and all it did was cause trouble.. Randomly it wouldn't be detected by pc when switched on so I have to restart several times.. The company then swopped out with a new one.. Same issues.. I then took a Gigabyte ghost.. No issues whatsoever. Lovely mouse.

@ OP look at some reviews for the Gigabyte ghost m8000X. You won't regret it.

Thanks, I read that before, but it seems to be mostly about wireless. I wouldn't consider a wireless mouse again in a hurry, even though I hear the tech has improved a lot.

And the people who say "the x is a better fit" honestly completely miss the point of the RAT. If it's not the most comfortable mouse you've ever used, change it. But like I said, I bought the RAT and it seriously makes the others look like toys. Well the G9x, Sidewinder, Steelseries Ikari and those at least, I haven't tried the Mamba, but I woudln't buy that because it's A: Wireless, B: Over R1000, and C: I still have a bad aftertaste from that abomination the Copperhead.
 
I have the RAT7, best move I have ever used. I cam from a Logitech G5 which I also love.

Very solid mouse, lots of configuration options.

I don't think the price is bad at all.

I would highly recommend one.

Both are essentially the same, only difference being wired/wireless.
 
I have a RAT7, since the beginning of the year before local suppliers even started selling them and whilst the looks and feel may not be for everyone, it definitely is one of the best on the market. Even just for customizing it's epic.

Problems? Yes there are a few I've come across, sometimes I need to wipe the bottom as it gets stuck, once a week or so randomly, and sometimes (much less often happened twice since I've had it) for a while once you let go the cursor moves slightly down and to the left.

Otherwise it's definitely the best mouse I've ever owned. Not only that but people are always amazed when they see it lol
 
If I may interject again. Lets be realistic, this is a subjective kind of decision, all gaming mice are basically exactly the same other then shape and a bit of speed here and there (you won't be using 5600DPI). Go with whatever looks best to you, feels best to you and suits your budget.

Everyone will say don't get this but get that, etc. However, it's like a review, it should be taken with a pinch of salt as it has the human element of biased towards what someone else likes/dislikes.

Personal preference is allowed is it not? The logitech G9 is undoubtedly the most stable, hard working, efficient and accurate wired mouse out there.

That RAT has just too many places to break. Try break a logitech g9x.

It is allowed, that's mine :D. Yea its tough, but its UGLY. It comes with the extra cover effort and everything, but it just never appealed to me.

I did try it, thanks. Didn't you read the thread? It's by no means a bad mouse, but the quality and especially the shape isn't in the same league as the good old G5.

This is basically my point. Except all are not the same, yes they all move a cursor around but they are quite different. I'm not worried so much about the speed no, but like I said it should be comfortable and well built and do the basics right.

And yes everyone will say theirs is best but unfortunately it's usually people who haven't tried anything else so that's why I wanted the opinion of people who could compare it to something. Just like if you ask a guy whose driven a BMW all his life which car is best, or asking an iTard which phone is the best. They won't really know. Especially South Africans have this whole brand-loyalty thing going on.

Any mouse will break if you throw it hard against a wall, and any mouse will make the cursor move if you lift it off the pad. The solution: don't be a retard and do those things, easy. I'm talking about normal operation.

From my little experience with the mouse so far, it's superbly constructed, as most reviews by non-idiots said. Like I said, this is how they used to make 'em.

Edit: BTW, some reviews just flat-out lie as well. I read one that said, "it sucks that the winged pinky rest doesn't have it's own teflon foot..." but it does have one. As does the thumbrest. I don't know what those guys are smoking hey.
