I'm a CCNA, but need experience to get a job, need a job to get experience ?!?!

Anyone have any idea's on what I can do ? I've done my CCENT, done my CCNA. Plan on working my way up to CCIE eventually, but I need EXPERIENCE ? and also income to fund further studies :/ ... This is quite a closed cycle of job<>experience. I need a way to get in there.

You just need a bit of luck! Do you have any background network experience? I suggest looking on the likes of gumtree, there are always job openings for CCNA certified guys.

I think everyone who starts off plans to get their CCIE. Not to sound harsh, but it is highly unlikely that you do get it.
As for getting a CCNA, hate to break it to you, but its not holding much weight anymore.
To get yourself straight into a networking job where you work on the stuff you want to is almost impossible. In fact, to get yourself into a job where you even touch proper networking / security equipment is highly unlikely if you have zero experience.

Either go into a small company where you start off as general techie, and end off the guy who runs everything IT
or
Get yourself a low level position at a large IT company, and work your way up.

A CCNA doesnt automatically exempt you from working the peon techie jobs..it just gets u a little bit ahead of the crowd when picking those jobs

Must have good coffee available for your customers. It's the coffee that keeps them coming back, not the internet.

I should keep this post and quote it every time someone asks about CCNA. :)

I don't know why people still think they'll get a great job just because of qualification. In IT you need to start at the bottom. A qualification just helps you when applying for a job, the rest is all based on experience. And even with qualifications, there are so many people with MCSE's, CCNA's etc, that your experience is what really sets you apart. A CCNA qualification is an ENTRY LEVEL qualification, it's not such a great cert as some think it is.

Oh, and good for you thinking you're going all the way to CCIE, you're just one in thousands of others who also said that and never did it... ;)

haha hmmm yeah ccie is tough, i know that... I did ccna by my self tho. and after working for a year or so I do plan on doing the CCNP... who knows where i'l be or if i'l
eventually be doing the CCIE..

As for the Cisco outsourcing company :P yes in the long run... need money to start that :D... and same for internet cafe :P

Oh and what are the kinda salaries of starting jobs in that department ? I don't mind working for a little bit of cashish, as long as it's practical ( can actually get to work - petrol ) and pay the usual things that need to be paid ) which costs a fortune actually...

and do you recommend getting the new MCITP now ? or rather finding a starting techi job ?

Yeah, every company will write that, but for entry level peon job, the ccna and some minor experience should give you a decent shot. Go to recrutiment company, they will sort you out.

CCIE is tough. Its not impossible, but be expected to fail it the first time, maybe even the second. ITs the money thats the issue, its expensive to get it done, expensive to fail, and expensive to study (in terms of equipment and time off etc). I work with a few CCIE's (security, RnS etc) and they are good. Like really good, and they plugged it.
Honestly, most who start off with the whole cisco thing, usually stop at a pro level certification.

anything from 3k to 7k i would imagine.

congrats on the CCNA- its not as easy as some people think, and the fact that you know your way around a router simulator is experience enough- believe me!

I know some people in the top ISPs in the country, and they will gladly take in a CCNA with no experience, place you in the call centre for the first few months, and you will sit safely in the 1st line support group within the first 3 months, with a higher level support job within the year.

truth is: CCIE is sometimes a pie dream. CCIP / CCNP + experience is what most of the guys are sitting with.
so explore your options.

Yeah I have, they usually have very small amounts of staff, and usually full. To my knowledge I don't think any of those do any networking type business, so I would like to be starting in a place where networking is something that happens.

Yeah I'l only know for sure if I go for the CCIE when I'm at the CCIP/CCNP + experience part and whether its something I want to do or not

Erm, you don't want to do normal techie work, cause it doesn't involve networking, but you're willing to do call centre work??? Trust me, your chances of getting a better job will be a lot better if you have techie experience on your CV, than having call centre experience. I used to work for a call centre at an ISP. LOTS of people there, most with qualifications, and all wanting a better job at the ISP. Sadly it rarely happens that people are promoted from the call centre to something good.
