When turning…

To the left mostly…

Only under power…i.e. accelerating?

These things it are not:

CV’s – had the left side replaced a little while ago. Still OK. Right side fine, inner & outer.
Shocks – were shocking, so replaced them anyway. Bump stops totally disintegrated. Replaced. No difference.
Engine mountings – replaced the bottom one, left & right appears to be OK, but I cannot be sure unless I remove & inspect.

Whatever goes klackety-klackety has caused the front section of the exhaust to part company at the flange gasket join.

I checked the tie rods, and they look OK.

What have I missed?

Oh ya, were talking a 96 Tazzz here, 2E motor

Had simila0r noise issue with opel corsa turned out to be rear wheel bearings.

Are you sure the noise is related to the exhaust?

Still got my old corolla which made a huge klackety klackety klack...

Replaced the rack and sorted out problem.

I checked the CV's & the rear wheel bearing myself in the usual manner. I also took it to a place in Wynberg, who confirmed my findings that these were fine.

Initially I was actually so convinced that it was a rear wheel bearing, that I went out & bought a bearing kit - I was planning on doing the job a few weekends ago, but never bothered after the shop said that they are fine. I still wonder though.....maybe I should replace it anyway.

I'm not convinced it is in fact the exhaust, but it seems whatever is causing it has had a detrimental effect on the exhaust.

I'm going to see my Dad on Sunday, maybe he can assist with diagnosis.

BTW, I know you've checked the CV's but have you replaced them or just re greased them? It could still be noisy cv's, so don't follow too many wild geese...

Good morning Fazda

Replaced the left half shaft. Right side booties nice & snug & goes squish with lots of lovely grease :)

I learnt a long time ago not to exclude "new" components...caused me much grief on 1 or 2 occassions :o
Hence I had them professionally checked as well.
 
On my -old- car...it was the engine mount!!! Damn thing had stripped the thread and was grating in and out on acceleration, making what sounds very similar to a CV joint. By the time I got it replaced by a proper mechanic he said the friggen engine was about to part ways. Cost me about R400 to get fixed, plus about R3k for all the other **** I got done by idiots who though they had solved it - ****ers.

I know you got them checked, but they always look super sturdy on inspection but could be cocked.

I was also going to say engine mounting. I had that problem in my '00 Bantam after 2 years.
 
I'm a demanding driver, that's why I switched to Opel :p
I broke a VW microbus after 3 months.
