Windows XP awarded security certification

WindowsXP is the most secure system on the planet.... if you dont load IE, or plug in a keyboard... or connect an ethernet cable... dang! .. Windows XP is 100% secure if the PC its loaded on is 100% unplugged from everything (including power)

Even though Windows shouldn't as many flaws as it has, I stand by the theory that most virus/malware/spyware infected PC's are infected because of the user.
 
This is ironic. The OS with the most flaws and loopholes certified. Next award coming up: The Earth - Master of Disguise - Appearing round while it is actually flat!
 
next they are going to certify Telkom as the most user-friendly company on earth?
 
Well at least we have learnt one thing and that is Microsoft and Telkom are one and the same (they promise everything ), so if you don't want problems don't use their products.

By that you mean users should be aware that they should 'just know' that they shouldn't use major core components of the software like Internet Explorer? Or that they should 'just know' that you have to first-time-update an XP box from behind NAT or a firewall or it'll be infected even before it's patched? I'm not sure I agree ... the target market wouldn't even understand half the words in that sentence. If they marketed the product to technically literate people then sure, I 100% agree with you, but they don't, they market the program to Joe Public as a "plug and play" "easy-to-use" "appliance" that "just works". It sure doesn't explain those things in the instructions that come with it. And most of the major worms and spyware etc. have exploited bugs in Windows/IE/Outlook etc., not social engineering.

The National Information Assurance guys must be brain-dead. Maybe they used a very special copy of XP - Steve Ballmer's personal notebook perhaps?

The Secunia website tells a very different story. Microsoft Windows XP Professional with all patches installed and all workarounds applied, is still rated "Highly critical". 28 out of 123 advisories are marked as "Unpatched".

Well, I suppose it is secure, if by "secure" you mean "flawed".

My Linux server (which runs on a PC my company wanted to throw out) has been running a web and mail for the last year, without ever needing a reboot or virus scan.

My desktop PC, which runs XP, needs two reboots per day, and has been reloaded to remove cr@pware twice this year, despite me "knowing what to install and what not to install" etc.
