New iPhone - Need all sorts of help

Hello everyone

Okay, where do I start...

I recently acquired my first iPhone 4 16gb, after upgrading from a device which could barely use morse-code. I have some questions which I'm unable to find PROPER answers for. Feel free to provide links.

1. Jailbreaking. Where can I get apps for jailbroken phones? I have read about something called Cydia, but I have no idea what Cydia even is.

2. Jailbreaking question, again: Can I still use the normal apps if my phone is jail-broken?

3. Remote desktop access: What's the best way to remotely access my home pc using my iPhone. For example, I want to be able to download from the interwebz to my pc at home, and be able to do this from lands far-far away (please help with this in detail - I have never remotely accessed any pc before - I'm technologically retarded in this aspect)

Run a VNC server on your PC and access it with a VNC client on your phone if you need a GUI.

Once you jailbreak your phone, Cydia is automatically installed. You can then use Cydia to install Installous if you are looking for pirated AppStore apps.
However, the apps are cheap and good quality. Rather just pay for them and reward the developers for the time and effort
 
@ JStrike: I have zero problemo with paying a few dorra for decent apps, but I certainly do hate Apple's retarded "you can't use this because it's not appleicious" policies.

The fact that I actually had to jailbreak my iPhone in the first place just makes me want to urinate in Steve Jobs' drinking water.
 
Oh yes, another thing: Can I run iTunes on two different PCs but for one iPhone? SAy, on my work's laptop and my home pc? I'm scared to install it on another machine and it wipes everything... This happened to my old iPod.

Nope. Otherwise you could use it to pirate music
 
Head over to www.iphoneza.co.za, all the answers you seek are there.

Do you have a US iTunes account? If not you need one. There is also an awesome Jailbreaking tutorial there, that process will automatically install Cydia.

You can authorise up to 5 pc's to manage your phone or iPod now, not like before.

Installous doesn't provide apps that aren't already accepted into the App Store.
I think you can use the Cydia app itself to install apps that weren't accepted into the App Store. However, if would proceed with caution

Again wrong. There are people who develop specifically to sell their apps on Cydia. You make it sound like there is nothing but rejects there.

I've looked through Cydia. Most of the apps there are rubbish. Most are poorly written written apps written by coders rather than developers

Yes, you are right. I completely forgot. Haven't used my laptop in so long, that I've forgotten that you can authorize multiple machines

And I do this how? Just install and plug in? Sorry... I'm new to this. Pretend you're instructing me like I'm 4

In iTunes, you have to click authorize in one of the menus. Then you can sync your phone
