Acer Iconia for R3999.00 - they any good? Any recommendations?

R3999? It says R5999 there.

It's good. But something is wrong that screws up the sound for VOIP/video calls, hoping for a software update to fix that.

Besides that I've found it to be a great device. Would still rather go for an ASUS Transformer though. Or even a Motorola Xoom.
 
The main (or only?) advantage of the Iconia over the EEE Pad or the Xoom is that it has a native USB port.
 
I would say go for it, for that price its the cheapest Dual Core tablet in the country.

Advantages over iPad is for one you can plug in a USB game controller like PS3 or Xbox and play games on it, offload pictures directly onto tablet and is ready for Android@home home automation. You would be able to browse and use/copy media via WiFi from your normal windows shares without the need for any software. You will be able to plug in a keyboard and mouse or a USB dongle into the USB. The HDMI port to consume media on your TV can also be very handy.

To be honest, a tablet is a tablet. Its a portable media device for use at home. You can play games, surf the web and check your emails without waiting for a computer to start up, or be limited to your desk. I love tablets for winter nights, I can park in a warm bed and surf the web and if you really need to access your PC you can always run VNC.

Only limitation on it for me would be the short battery life compared to other devices.

I played with one yesterday in the IC store. I would suggest you go to one so you can see for yourself if you would like it. The screenn could be made a bit bigger as the frame border felt a bit wide.

It is dual core and the games that was one the model I saw looked pretty amazing.

Played with the iPad afterwards and it made the iPad feel a bit lacking.

No :)
Xoom has a working USB port since the 3.1 update. EEE Pad Transformer has USB ports on the dock.
I think either of them would be a better choice than the Acer.

I don't have many micro USB devices...
 
Wow, so many pro Acer and anti Acer here. Making this a tough choice. Those others seem more expensive though, so need to take the price into account.

It's not mine, but being the IT person of the family it's my job to get it up and running. The odd bit of lag but the vast majority of the time performance is flawless.
It doesn't have the Android 3.1 update yet, which will have more performance optimisations. It's due in June according to Acer.
 
I see the NGR page wording has changed now as well, instead of from 1st to 30th of June it now only states
