Hi there people....

Due to a weird set of circumstances, I find myself needing to use the K3770 modem that I will get in the new vodacom deal with my Cell C 24GB promo sim. Although the k3770 supports the 900 UMTS band that Cell C operates on, will the modem be somehow locked to the vodacom service only? If so, will I be able to overcome this?

Please advise :)

I will confirm for you tomorrow when back at work...but I was lookiing at the specs for the K3770 on the box on Friday and am pretty sure I did not see the 900mhz band being ticked for UMTS....only for normal GSM usage.

Allow ocleroux to confirm the hardware compatability but to get a VC modem to work on a CC sim is rather easy. Install the VC modems software as it will bring in the drivers. You can then use the VC software to connect to the CC modem, just configure a new account. Else you can just configure the modem under Dial-Up-Connection. Use the number *99# (or *99****1#) and the username/password can be anything.

If you use the dial-up connection route, then goto to the hardware manager part under my computer and disable the CD-ROM for the modem (right click and select disable). Repeat this process for each USB port (replug modem into each port and repeat). This way the modem will not attempt to install/open up the VC software everytime you want to use the modem. You can also uninstall the VC software if you want as the drivers will still be available in your PC.

I did this dial-up method on 3 laptops last week. All three where Win7 but I've done it also on WinXP a few years back. I used a K3760 & K3760-Z last week.

I also bought a TP-LINK 3G router last week for R440 (ex postage) and this was the best solution as it requires no drivers and works perfecto.

Confirmed. Looking at a K3770 box that I have with me and it shows the the K3770 modem does NOT support UMTS 900mhz.

I'm hoping someone can help me.
I bought a TP-link3420 router, but it does not recognize my vodafone k3770 modem
It picks up my brothers cellc E1752 modem fine.
Any way I can manually configure it on the router?

Any help will be greatly appreciated
