Hi there.

Windows 7 Ultimate and iPhone and iPAD 2.

Can you please suggest software to download and then convert Youtube (or other formats) to be viewed on my iPAD?

Use Firefox, and check for an add-on for that

Then download in mp4, you can add that directly to your iTunes library, no conversion necessary
 
Yep there are many ways. Firefox extension is one. Here's another service that does the sme thing: keepvid.com - available as a bookmarklet too.

But basically Exactly what R-J said. The MP4 files play natively in iTunes and iThings. But flvs require conversion. An easy and free conversion program is handbrake. Peace
