Where to find scrapped exotic cars?

Sorry for the lame question - but having never done this before I am not sure where to begin.

Basically I would like to find a classic car and restore it - hence the car does not need to be in good condition. Are there any places in South Africa that specialize in this sort of thing? I was looking for an old Porsche thats not a complete write off that can at least be salvaged.

If anyone knows anything please let me know.

A good place to start would be classic car clubs. The members often know of cars or may have one they once intended too use for parts

I'm not too fond of porsche's, prefer jaguars and landies.
Try googleing for porsche owner forums and collectors. The normally have loads of information on which models to buy, what to look for on a specific model, prices you may expect to pay, ect.
Also try and find a full part/service manual. Also price service parts to see what it'll cost to run after restoration.
Do your research before you buy. And enjoy! :D
 
You could call Mario from M & R motors 011 493 5752. He does a lot of work on Porsches and could probably point you in the right direction. He will also be one of the best guys to chat to if you need help down the road with anything.

I found using the year feature on Gumtree was the biggest help, dont just search under "Porsche" , many adds are mis-labeled or misleading, search each section using the year parameter "1900" to "1975" or the latest year model you want.

I recently took ownership of a 39 Chevy Coupe , took me about 8 months of looking and searching, but eventually found one, still running with 216 straight 6 "stovebolt" motor.
Found a copy of the original owner/workshop manual on Amazon.

My goal is to turn it it into more of a rally car than a hot rod.
After a fair amount of research, i found out that there is a rally , the Peking to Paris, that many cars of this era and earlier run in, so have been researching the specs for many WRT suspension, under body protection etc.
Want to try and keep it fairly original, maybe an engine swap from the current 216 "stovebolt" straight 6 to a later model 235 straight 6.
A 4 or 5 speed manual box, and if i am really lucky enough to find one, a ford 9" rear.

That sounds fantastic! Yes the 39 Coupe was rallied extensively in Mexico, and I am pretty sure I saw one on the Peking to Paris event - a brilliant project!! :D
 
That is a dream of mine! Could never afford it, sadly!:(

I see that the 38 Coupe was ex Cape Town! Magnificent cars!!
