I'm hoping someone can help me.
I bought a TP-link3420 router, but it does not recognize my vodafone k3770 modem
It picks up my brothers cellc E1752 modem fine.
Any way I can manually configure it on the router?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I have the same problem.... I applied to tp-link..... and this was the reply:

Dear Nizam,
Thank you very much for your email requesting information about our product. I notice Huawai K3770 USB modem is not on the compatibility list: http://www.tp-link.com/common/subject/3g-router/compatible/list/ that means we haven’t test yet, we will test it if we could have one in future.
For your issue:
1. Upgrade your router with the latest firmware and reset it to factory default settings;
TL-MR3420, the latest firmware is 110418: http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/downloadFiles.aspx?mid=0103030201&version=V1&pmodel=TL-MR3420
TL-MR3220: http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/downloadFiles.aspx?mid=0103030201&version=V1&pmodel=TL-MR3220
2. Plug in 3G modem to it and login in http://192.168.1.1, check whether 3G modem is recognized with signal strength or not?
3. if recognized:Configure the router to 3G onlymode, and then type in the correct APN, Dial No. parameters;
Check the “connect automatically” option for the connection mode and Save;
Reboot the router, wait 1 minute, if 3G section shows IP/Default Gateway/DNS, try Internet.
4. if unknown: 1> Try using our USB sniffer tool to make bin files for your modem, and see if these bin files help. Here is the download link for the USB sniffer tool.
ftp://tplink:wr641g@ftp.tp-link.com/Temp/3G/TP-LINK_3G_USBSniffer_Guide_105.zip
Hope you could understand.

Best Regards!

Guys if you need help with new modems and getting them working with TPLink kit then its best to speak to Uniterm. They have direct channels to TPLink support and get access to preview firmwares and bin files.

I just emailed to support at dbg co za (uniterm).... lets hope to get a answer with a ready made bin file..... Unless there is better hope out there

Hi There guys

Our support technicians should be able to assist with this, if you have emailed them they will contact you with the steps required to get the modem supported.

I used the sniff tool posted above and successfully created a bin file for the Huawei K3770 working with MR3420.
Get it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?7062cdibh1jxtud)

I takes about 2 minutes on my router to identify the K3770. Once identified it connects quickly. Speedtest on Vodacom Cape Town server gave 6.4 mbit/sec.

I take no responsibility for the file or changes you make to your router. Use at own risk.

Thankz Ajax

Downloaded the bin file.... I took the modem to Uniterm after their rapid response on Friday..... I did not get a chance to pick it up in the afternoon, but will do so Tomorrow (Monday).... They did not confirm if it is working yet..... I will however try this bin file by tommorow night to see if it is really working,..... I still cant see what steps I took that could not make it work..... maybe it was just my computor, or a ghost in the wires.... Thanks anyways... hope Irshaad and many of the other readers can benefit as well....

Just a warning - I have noticed after the latest firmware update it takes ages to recognise my E1820 (CellC black stick).

Edit - 3420 model

was quick
U just download the bin file
open http://192.168.1.1 once the router is connected to pc
username:admin
password:admin

do the quick setup, upload the bin file, and voila
done.
A few extra steps in between, but if you follow the instructions, its not complicated at all
Shout if u need help

Did you use Windoze XP? After success I tried on Vista and 7 for a different modem and it didn't work. I also found the instructions were not 100% clear in the how-to due to Engrish, but reading it carefully and slowly one is able to interpret.

Im a bit confused here, i downloaded BIN file, so where do i go to, to apply this BIN file ? The quick setup is just a normal setup, theres no way to load any files through the quick setup.
Thanks,

Edit - 3420 model

I have had the same experience with my E1820 and 3420 - takes up to 10 mins sometimes... Anybody know if it's possible to 'downgrade' firmware, i.e. load an older version over the latest version?

Works for me. EDIT: Here's an alternate link (http://hotfile.com/dl/125422635/5bc27cf/TP-LINK_3G_USBSniffer_Guide_105.zip.html).

Mine took 1 minute just now after a reboot with the latest (17 June) firmware.

downgraded my 3420 firmware to 110418 and router recognises and connects much faster using either E1820 or K4505Z

I saw this with the MR3220, but found that if I plug in the modem before powering up the router, it recognizes the modem much quicker.

My friend on the 2GB+2GB promotion with Vodacom has been using the K3770 on his MR3420. I asked him yesterday for a status update. He's been online now for 11 days. The last disconnect was due to a power failure at his place. He gets between 25% and 32% signal, a bit low. Nevertheless Speedtest.net gave 2 megs down and 1 meg up. He's very satisfied so far.

EDIT: The firmware version used on the router is the June (http://www.tplink.com/de/support/download.asp?a=1&m=TL-MR3420) version.

This Router is awesome! Thanks Ajax!

You can split the bin file, slightly reduces startup time...

How? :)

The bin file is now also available on TP-Link's site. (http://www.tplink.com/en/support/3g/)

Thanks for updating the download link, Ajax.
I've tried (unsuccessfully) to get the K3770 to work with the MR3020.
I uploaded the bin file from TP Link's website, but it didn't work.
I uninstalled that and installed yours, but that didn't work either.
On a hunch, I changed the dial code to *99***1# (from *99#)
From what I understand, the only difference between the numbers has something to do with the APN.
And voila! It connected!
So I disconnected and took it to my colleague to show him, since it was his gear.
But no matter what I tried, it wouldn't connect. Changed the dial codes, power cycled, everything.
Nothing worked.

Anyone have a similar situation?
Or perhaps a solution?

Thanks...

(NOTE: I attempted to make my own BIN file, but I don't think that the sniffer program works with Windows 7. The log file doesn't exceed 0, no matter what I do. If I don't run as administrator, then the log file sits at -0. XP compatibility mode does not help either.)

Both dialing codes are the same. Second one is just short version.

Did you use the same modem? APN is stored in the modem. I suggest to put this modem in PC, run MDMA. If MDMA shows APN "internet", then fine, *99# should work. If not, enter this string in MDMA, set APN, then close MDMA and move modem back to the router.

Congrats on 1000 posts :)

Will try when I get my hands on the modem on Tuesday.
I used exactly the same modem both times. Connected the first time, then wouldn't connect anymore.
Odd.

I'll come back to this when I've had a chance to gather more info.
Thanks!

I couldn't get it to work on 7 either.

Maybe try a different sim (another network), just to rule a network issue out.

Wow! I didn't noticw that. :)

Strange, yeh, as dialing string was correct, and APN (if not modified by backgroud dashboard) was the same.

@michaelrodger - did you ever manage to connect? I'm having the same issue with my vodacom k3770 on the tp-link 3420 with the vodafone bin file off tp link's website.

Howzit,
Just got a new batch of portable 3G routers in stock.
We have been in close contact with the manufacturer and have managed to get these to work 100% with the Huawei K3770.
