e-tagging of prisoners in South Africa considered

The sign of the beast

They say nothing about cost. How much is this going to cost per prisoner, that is quite a lot of prisoners we are talking about.

Edit: Sorry I see it isn't researched yet

I wonder how much per km they walk they'll be charged? 66cents is just too much

How is this ever a clever idea? Prison is there to remove the criminals from society.

Why not just ask the accused to promise never to do it again when in court, and kick the case out? That'll save overcrowding, the expense, the bother of having to believe in a safe society, etc.

more brilliant ANC ideas!

Give the prisoners more right and freedoms and punish the innocent public.

This will be another embarrassing failure. They go to prison for reason - now they will be just tagged and sent on their merry way like fish in the sea.

Also it doesn't state how they will be tagged? How easy will it be to remove the tag?

Tag and release? They're criminals, not fish.

What is the purpose of the tag? How will the be tracked? And how will this stop them from doing whatever they were in prison for in the first place?

Perhaps treating them like wild animals - tag them and then put them in a big fenced area somewhere in the bushveldt and whenever they try to cross the fencing, shock them & notify the control building that they are tried to cross the boundary. ;)

Rather have an reserve with boundaries without fences- implant an exploding capsule into their brains- they cross the boundary - boom bye bye criminal:twisted:

That's a great plan. Would be funny to see the day the server malfunctions or something :p *boom*boom*boom*boom*boom*boom*boom*boom*

I was sure I saw a woman with a monitoring device around her ankle a few weeks back. I was on the other side of the road and she was standing in her garden by the gate and from that distance it looked bulky and some sort of device. I told my daughter that if she moves from her gate they blow her foot off.

Perhaps they should use these devices on prisoners...

Yup wonder what they'll come up with next... oh wait... SA's own space programme... sending rockets the shape of dog kennels into space, with massive rubber strips, forming catapults, in trees!
