Johannesburg - A three-year old girl has drowned in the swimming pool of a home in Highlands, Johannesburg, paramedics said on Thursday.

"Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the girl had been playing near the pool when she went missing. Family members discovered her floating in the water and made the emergency call," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.

"Fire fighters, first at the scene, pulled the girl from the icy water and placed her body at the pool side, immediately initiating care and starting CPR," Wicks said.

The resuscitation attempt lasted an hour and the girl was rushed by ambulance to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

So they find her in the pool make a call and wait for the emergency service? Why didn't they pull her out the pool?
 
The parents waited for the firemen to pull the poor kid from the pool? :eek:

Every parent needs to know at least basic lifesaving techniques.
 
Ok ... why the fsck did the *****-for-brains parents not get the girl out of the pool ASAP? Why wait for fire fighters?!?!?
 
The family killed the baby, otherwise why wait for emergency personnel to arrive first and have them pull the kid out of the pool. Something is not right here. Either they didn't want to get their clothes wet or their brains are all messed up.

More reason to have pools banned in this country. Besides water waste with pool use, children are dying....
 
This is terrible :(

Maybe the wording in the article is a bit misleading but it does sound like the parents saw her floating in the pool, placed the call and waited for someone to arrive before she got pulled out. It just doesn't sound right. If it was me (probably any parent) I'd be in that pool so fast the thought of calling 911 wouldn't even have crossed my mind yet.
 
I have three kids, 3, 5 and 8 years old. We have a pool (enclosed) and I am paranoid with the thing!

How can a parent leave the child in the pool until emergency services arrive? Jesus, I would at least jump in with the last hope of at least saving my child's life!
 
I doubt banning pools is the answer, how many deaths are there on our roads? Perhaps we should ban cars? Heck we should ban people walking on our roads as well. While we are it let's ban planes as well.

This seems a bit excessive. Everyone I know with a pool and little kids have their pools covered with safety nets and some fencing around the pool. Simple measures to prevent drownings.

ROFLMAO I think that is a little extreme.

The parents were just ridiculously irresponsible morons. Millions of people live perfectly safe lives with their turquoise puddles of doom nestled comfortably in the back yard without anyone ever drowning in them. Invest in a freaking pool net. Problem solved.
 
That's why there is a thing called a pool cover... Those calling for bans on swimming pools are the same narrow-minded lot who carry on about cellphone "radiation" and yet still vote ANC to keep them in power... but whinge and threaten to leave when our dear friend Julius paints a picture...

Anyways getting back on topic...
This is a cover-up for something else... they likely killed the kid... and then chucked her into the pool to cover it up! No parent, would just sit and wait around for the ambulance to arrive... so there is definitely more to this story...
 
I don't think there is anything fishy(!) going on here. The parents probably just can't swim.

Even if the Parents cant swim, atleast make an attempt to pull the kid out. Theres that long pool cleaning brush or whatever thing is available, try and pull her out with that.

Well, how deep can the pool be? Or maybe the parents are midgets? Maybe just incorrect reporting ??? Either way the parents should be held accountable. It's common knowledge that you don't leave young children unattended at swimming pools or have some safeguards in place to protect children from falling into the pool.
 
Well, I was educated in primary school about the dangers of swimming pools... not only that I actually pay attention and WATCH over my child.
There could be incorrect reporting here.. so I guess we will have to wait for a follow-up!

LOL i was just wondering the same thing. I am fairly short and i can stand in the deep end of our pool.
