World Broadband Growth Continues, South Africa lagging further behind

Papi Molotsane, CEO of Telkom, has promised an ADSL line-penetration rate of between 15% and 20% by the end of 2008, but this will only be possible with a massive reduction in price.

What is the percentage? Is it a percentage of people, households or ADSL-enabled phones?

If it is the first two, good luck, Telkom will never achieve.
If it is the last option, easy to achieve - simply continue with their abysmal service and pricing, and then out of the remaining 10 users they have, only 2 need to have ADSL. :D

Unfortunately Telkom has fed the South African media and public so many lies in the past that only time will tell whether these figures are accurate and the promised growth achievable.
Well said.

Or more to the point "only time will tell how inaccurate the figures are, and by how much the promised growth was not achieved.

*yawn* - this is getting old... how much more are we going to hear about this in 2006 ? need to see something actually accomplished in 2006, not more setbacks...

Ok so when are we to hear about this draft legislation to bring prices down and are they sorting out the issues as yet? when are they implimenting it all???

Feels like nothing's getting done... ever... don't believe telkom can pull off any of the bull$hi+ they are saying...

Good to see Cara back on form for 2006. :)
Well Done.

As much as it is boring to hear the same thing over and over, I think it is also good to put pressure on the parties concerned. We are here to stay. We are not going to take Telkom's and ICASA/DOC bullsh* anymore. We are pretty close to a breakthrough...

Broadband is a pretty big mess here in South Africa. Pity the minister of communications and those involved in the sector is either to incompetent or greedy to do anything about it.

If the DOC pushed LLU to go through sooner im sure we could see it even higher than that by then.

Problem is that we're stuck listening to Papi's promises till then, and how many promises have Telkom CEO's been known to keep ?
