how fast are you downloading from Steam? Is is screwed?

usually I flatline my ADSL but I think with all the summer specials the servers must be rather overloaded....

stuck around 40K when its normally like 900K

anyone else struggling?

Change your download server. I'm using Johannesburg (MWEB) and get full line-speed. On ANY of the other servers I get a max of between 40-80kB/s.
 
It happened last year this time. Some of the more popular servers get overloaded due to the specials.

Give it a few days and you will be back full steam ahead ha ha

Yeugh... I wanted that but then saw it used Games for Windows LIVE (uber brownie point loss) and had a Securom four activation limit (the final blow, the coup de grâce, the uber smoosher, the killer of glee, squisher of hope and flattener of want).
 
Mine was screwy all day as well. Stuck at 0KB/s between about 18:00 to 20:00. The JHB Mweb one. But it seems to be back to almost normal now. It's at 75-80 now where I normally get a constant 103, on a 1Mbit line.
 
right Im back in the saddle... not quite full line speed but I can live with 820

ah, good to see not just me.

mine has also been terribly slow last couple days and even switching didn't work.

will check again tonight.

but DAMMIT, can these specials end already... my CC is working overtime :D
 
I''ve tried all the South African servers and none of them go over 50KB/s, but when switching to one of the US servers I get average 250KB/s. Go figure.

PS: On 4Mb line
 
I have switched between all the SA servers and they have all been terrible.

even tried going international to see if that could work, but no luck even there.

do any of you use filehosts like Fileserve, Megaupload, Hotfile, Oron, Rapidshare to download?
and on which ISP you guys on?
I am on Mweb and everything has taken a major "dump", but when I switch to my Afrihost capped account I seem to get way better speeds.
why I am thinking it is Mweb in general as I see on other forums they also mention this kind of issue.
 
dadiggle, let's not make this into another "I HATE <insert ISP name> TOPIC"

we are merely trying to establish if it's a global or local problem and then we can work from that.
 
Mine is coming down at 420 KB/s average Mweb CPT server on Mweb uncapped.

Pity you cant play and download at the same time, I resorted to downloading on my laptop while playing on my PC in Off line mode. Just added Worms Reloaded to my que.

My CC will be happy to know tomorrow(7pm tonight) is the last day, its screaming for a break. Oh well guess I'll eat bread while I play my games.
 
yeah it is going to be heaven when these specials end...

any of you still play a bit of Supreme Commander 2?

also got me Worms and a bloody day before it went on special :(
also in a rush of these I got the DLC's and then found out they haven't been released yet :(
