Ballmer must be laughing all the way to the bank.
LOL, Apple and Sony are trying to be the new greedy corporate douchebags on the block, but they've got a lot to learn from the old masters of the dick move!
Microsoft is doing what it does best, making money from the ideas and talents of others while screwing over the competition at the same time. Thats proper *******-ing right there.

Microsoft has these deals with a number of Android OEMs including HTC, Wistron, General Dynamics, Velocity Micro, Motorola, Barnes and Noble and Onkyo.
This is no different from what any other company does with their patents (look at Apple, Google and Samsung (http://piloty.eu/samsung.html) over the past year or so).
The whole software patent is a bit weird in this day and age (most of these patents are from years ago when MS 'invented' them for the first time).
No-one can go after Google for Android as they do not sell the product. It is the OEMs profiting from selling devices that infringe on the patents that they have to go after.
It's amazing how justified everyone else is when calling in patents but whenever Microsoft does it it's evil.

You obviously don't understand the definition of a patent. These patents protect ideas that Microsoft has come up with. Yes, the patent business is silly and patents should expire after x years but in the end, MS came up with these ideas long ago, spent the money on R&D, etc.
Like I say, all companies do this - not just Microsoft.
