A Pretoria soldier was stabbed to death after he and two colleagues allegedly became involved in a heated argument in the city’s military area of Thaba Tshwane on Sunday.
The three are believed to have begun arguing after one of the men, a 22-year-old lance corporal, allegedly demanded to know where the two had been when he confronted them after they returned to their base during the early hours on Sunday.
It is believed that when the lance corporal, whose name police have declined to divulge, confronted his subordinates one of them pulled out a knife. Police said that during the confrontation the lance corporal was stabbed repeatedly.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said the soldier died soon after being taken to 1 Military Hospital as a result of the injuries he had sustained.
She said that the two suspects, whose ranks she declined to reveal, were arrested at their quarters and detained at the Pretoria Central police station.
“At this stage the motive for the attack is unknown.
“The two suspects will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this week on charges of murder,” she said.
