New Hardware, advice needed.

I need your advice, I have the oppurtunity to get a graphics card and cpu from America which according to my calculations is alot cheaper than if I had to get it here.

I am looking at getting a eVGA Geforce 7800 GT pci express for around $350 and AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ for around $350.

What I would like to know is if anyone knows if the graphics card is any good and if anyone has bought hardware in America, what kind of shops should the person go to, to get this hardware.

I hope you guys can understand what I am asking :)
 
Um i cant really comment on the America part, besides to check the warrantees.

EVGA is topnotch and of course the 7800GT is brilliant so yes the graphics card is good, very good.

On the CPU side, do you need a dual core? What will you use the processor for? Because 9/10 programs wont make use of the dual core so in actual fact only one of the 2 cores (it being a 3000+ in your case) will be in use, a waste. For the price of a X2 3800+ you could get a single core 4000+ which is awesme and maybe a better idea ATM

As I said. The X2 3800+ consists of 2x 3000+ processors. With such a killer GFX card you might want a little higher.

And of course 2GB RAM
 
Does anyone know of sites that are not in South Africa that you can purchase hardware from that they deliver to South Africa

Um the 3500+ and 3700+ are both very nice, but try go for the 3800+ which has the added benifit of 1mb cache.
 
Yes,3500 is basically a glorified 3200+,just an extra 200mHz which can easily be gained by changing the CPU freq to 220.
Generally Sandys(3700)clock better than 3800's but if you aint playing that game then either would be just fine and definate performers.
 
Sorry, but could you tell me where i have to go to get that right i was just at there site and when you check out they ask for a country and south africa is not in the list.

SA always gets thrown to the side in all fields with online shopping internationally.

The reason that I am looking outside of SA is bacause the prices are alot cheaper.
 
Yeh,I used to order alot of records from overseas,there were so few sites to buy from that would ship here,so I basically ordered from one site,but the prices were so cheap I could the latest recordings at cheap prices,compared to limited supply at expensive prices here....just the same as hardware.

The thing that gets you is the extra charge you pay the post office lol when you pick up the package,now thats the killer.
Gotta love it.
