so i hear they give you a REFURBISHED router with the 1mb line.
i was also told that it is wireless.

my question now is: the router will be in the main building and i will be using it in the building right next door, about 20m away
will i loose signal strength? and if so how can i boost it please?

They'll most likely give you a Telkom DuoPlus 300WR router, which is a piece of crap, but at least it's better than nothing.

You can simply buy a WiFi repeater/AP and then run a LAN (CAT5e/6) cable from the ADSL modem to the WiFi AP or the WiFi repeater can be placed in the middle.

Once you know what they have supplied, you can also contact Poynting Antennas (http://www.poynting.co.za/) (0800443443) and ask they for advice regarding aerials to extend the Wi-Fi signal without running any cables. They have helped me in the past with great results.
 
Have a look at Uniterm Direct / Scoop Distributions / Miro for routers and network equipment.

Uniterm Direct sells directly to the public, with only VAT added to their advertised prices. Scoop Distributions will add markup & VAT to their prices.
I'm not sure about Miro, because I've never bought from them before.
 
I've just had my 3-month 5GB 1mbps trial activated ... yesterday the Telkom guy came round and left a brand-new Billion 400G wireless router for my use.

I sometimes get 1 Mbps on the dot :D

Upload Speed: 419 kbps (52.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

I got, what seemed like, a new Billion 400g. How would you know if it is refurbished?

Anyways, I think someone made a mistake somewhere with this free "1 meg" promotion :erm: :D

can some one please help me?

i am struggling with the installation CD it gets to the point where it says : "Testing DSL modem" and it stays there with the dots running..it does not want to get past this point, which makes me think it is not picking up the modem...must the laptop be connected with the yellow network cable because it wont pick up the modem wirelessly because the software has not gotten to the point where you configure the wireless setup/settings?????
 
what would you do if you have a desktop tower and your landline socket is waaay in another part of the house??? re set-up your desktop next to your landline socket??
because the yellow cable is a bit short....

I wish they made that same 'mistake' with my connection!
But today it is at least now approaching the 1mbps line offered with the free promo

Yep. It certainly seems like it. Just had my 384k line installed literally a week before they launched this deal. Called Telkom and pleaded to get this deal and they told me I would have to cancel my current line and reapply for the special. Unfortunately I'm not one brave enough to go through all that again!

exactly what i got... what now??? can i complain? seker nie...dit IS afterall a 3 month 5 GB FREE trial
