Competition and LLU helps to push broadband

Stand to lose alot of money...

It is also worth noting that the biggest stakeholder in the South African telecommunications giant, Telkom, is in fact the government.

The South African government, and indirectly the DoC itself, therefore stand to lose a lot of money if LLU is implemented effectively.

They stand to lose money to the citizens of this country. Big deal - lend a helping hand to the people of South Africa - it's appearently not in their interest.

Telkom is an indirect tax.

yup.. this is where they'll say 'yes well we use funds gained for public projects that would otherwise not be able to be completed/funded' <- r-i-g-h-t we believe you.. I think we need to demand, as was done with water and electricity, a basic amount / cost / service for telephony.. speaking of which uhm the adsl draft proposal that wraps up this week or nxt ?

It's just stupid of the govt. If they cut telecoms prices it would stimulate growth in a lot of sectors, not just online. More businesses, more taxes they could get. Maybe even more than what they milk out of us via telkom now. Somebody whack poison ivy over the head and explain that to her. Preferebly while using very large simple pictures accompanied by very short, easy-to-understand words

IMO, the DoC understands this perfectly well, they're just corrupt and don't care.
