Been doing some homework to get a 3g SIM for our modems.
Cell C staff - greet you when you walk in, if they don't know they call or phone someone to find out. Wanted a business data 10Gb SIM. Rep came around with product, demo'd it professionally, answered all the questions. Product met about 85% of my criteria, so considering.
MTN - guy busy having a (private?) conversation on his phone, with much laughter. Would not make eye contact. Waited 3 mins for him to finish with many kisses, etc. Asked about data contracts. There was a new one coming out, he said but "they" had not told him about it. I suggested he call them to find out, but no, I must call later in the week. Not impressed as I still don't know what I am getting. Why can't he phone me? When I suggested that, he looked astonished and did not reach for a pen.
8ta - long queue (45 mins) surly staff, was a big pain for him to look up anything, he must have pressed keys on the keyboard for 2 mins. Asked for my address, after 3 mins said "no coverage, no contract". Told him that my address is not address where modem is to be used, looked at me as if I was stupid, muttered and shook his head. Yes, he said after 3 mins, there is coverage. Want 3 months bank statements, RICA docs. I handed them over. No - bank account must be in your name, totally unacceptable. I explained that business pays for contracts, not me. Don't do business contracts he said and pushed all documents back over the counter. Asked him how I could get SIM or contract. Did not know and stared at next customer standing behind me. Even less impressed with this. No incentive to get the slightest bit interested in what the customer wants.
Haven't been to Vodacom shop, but their data prices aren't great.
Popped into Altech Autopage, same building as my business. Staff clueless, never heard of a modem. The word "package" was repeated about 10 times during the 3 minute conversation. Promised to call back but never did (10 days later). Maybe she wrote my number down incorrectly. Got the impression I was a nuisance asking all these awkward questions. Asked me at one stage if I was talking about Neotel.
