I decided it's time to get this thread started. For those that don't know, the SA football season is made up of the PSL (league), Nedbank Cup (FA Cup), Telkom Knockout (League Cup), and MTN 8. The MTN is a special cup for the top 8 finishers from last seasons PSL, and opens the season.

The MTN8 opens next week with the quarter finals, and they are:

Friday, 5 August
Ajax Cape Town vs Supersport United Cape Town Stadium
Orlando Pirates vs Santos Orlando Stadium

Saturday 6 August
Mamelodi SUndowns vs Bloemfontein Celtic Lucs Moripe Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs vs Wits Soccer City

The PSL opens the following weekend. Opening fixtures:

Ajax Cape Town have made it officall. They will use Cape Town Stadium as their home for at least the next 3 years:

Johannesburg - Ajax Cape Town have revealed that they will play all their home games at the Cape Town Stadium for the next three years.


This news should finally end speculation over the future of the iconic World Cup stadium with many soccer supporters still of the belief that the structure would be torn down if not continually utilised.

The Urban Warriors revealed on their website that an agreement has been reached with the City of Cape Town.


Ajax CEO George Comitis added: "Cape Town Stadium is a public asset and managing a public asset like this elevates the demand for its usage by local organisations. We are proud to be associated with the Cape Town Stadium and to call this our home.


"We have plans to make sure that this partnership works to the benefit of all Capetonians


"We are privileged to train at a world class facility like Ikamva and play at a world class venue, the Cape Town Stadium.


"This has always been the vision of Ajax Cape Town football Club."


Ajax Cape Town also reported a 150% increase in spectator attendances at home games when they used the stadium last season with over 31 000 people in attendance at their final Premier Soccer League clash with Maritzburg United.

That was really funny. :D

Benni is in for a nasty surprise. The PSL's top scorers are always hovering around 15 - 17 goals. Him being so old and slow he will be lucky to reach double figures without the quality supply that he is used to in Europe.
 
The MTN 8 quarter finals are done:

Ajax Cape Town 5-2 Supersport United
Orlando Pirates 1-0 Santos (AET)

Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Bloemfontein Celtic
Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 Wits Soccer City

All four top seeds, Ajax, Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs advance to the semis.

Well.... scoring in his first game (coming on in the 62nd minute) has shut them all up now, has it not?
 
Benni has his detractors,but the PSL is a poor league. Should he stay fit,he will rather easily score 20+ goals. Zuma was banging in the goals at his age last year,Benni is just 33 me'thinks... Still some goals left in him.

I didn't get to see the Pirates' game, but I'm glad to see that Benni scored, hopefully he can bang in the goals on a regular basis.

It looks like SABC1 will show the game, but delayed live, at 11pm. Fail.

Aaargh! I'm more peaceful than Gandhi but I really, really, really want to kick whoever came up with the phrase "delayed live" to death.
If it's delayed, it's NOT live and If it's live, there is NO delay FFS!

Bloem Celtic stay at the top of the log, and Black Leopards stay at the bottom.
