So I thought I would get into my magic ways again and play some MTG. I downloaded the demo through steam and am finding it pretty frustrating.

Basically the part I am having problems with in the battle phase:

1) Opponent declares attacker
2) I declare blocker

Phase ends before I can play something like Giant growth on the critter to make sure I win the fight. My critter dies, instant goes unplayed.

This is pretty frustrating. How do I stop at the phase before damage dealing is dealt in the combat phase (after blockers are declared ... unless the rules have changed, I should still be able to play an instant)?

Based on what I remember, the phases should be:
Untap, upkeep, draw a card, first main phase, combat phase, second main phase, end phase. The combat phase is broken up into declare attackers, declare blockers, chance of instances, deal damage.

Okay, think I figured it out. After you declare your blocker you have about 3 or 4 seconds to push stop timer, and then you can play instances. Is there a way to make that timer longer? :D You gotta be quick on the draw and wide awake.

Never played the PC version. Think I should check it out to :)

on the older game, you can change the timer under game settings.

Talk about mtg.

My friend and I are starting again with mtg. Anyone in pta area still play? I know like outerlimites has some tournaments over weekends. Who here still play?

is there no extra step after declaring blockers?
i will check tonight...

tell me about it...

I have quite a few times messed up because the damn thing auto continues whenever it wants.

sadly yes, you have to be quick and watch for the "STOP TIMER" to appear.

am loving it though and had quite the battle getting past the 1st guy with only 2 decks available, so bought the others as well.

Chandalaar's Fire deck is quite nice and so is Gideon's deck, but then again, as I have seen yet again, this game is based a lot on luck.

I got over this game when it had the same huge problem as the last one:

You can't choose which lands you want to tap.

So you end up getting screwed over with mana usage fairly regularly when playing multi-coloured decks, since the auto-tap is terrible.
