Telkom ADSL line rental- Prepaid option?

Is there any plans in the pipeline to bring Telkom ADSL line rental as a prepaid service ? Similiar to Telkom Prepaid Home Phone ?

I'm encountering alot of people that due to bad credit arent able to pass credit vetting and therefore unable to get ADSL or pretty much any other product tied to a contract. Reading the latest figures relating to credit active consumers that are experinacing some form of financial distress I would think that Prepaid ADSL Line product would be a real winner for telkom.

Any info or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Probably right. innovation is not quality many would associate telkom with . However , with landline business being the dying dinasuar that it is my thinking leads me to believe that with our current state of high " bad credit " consumers around there must be a fair amount of previously happy & diligent ADSL subscribers that now find themselves banished to the shark infested wasteland of the cell operaters and there prepaid 3g money printing machine. Surely an opportunity exists where telkom could claw sum subscriber numbers back and relativley on the cheap?
 
Prepaid ADSL will be very expensive, even if it is naked ADSL.

As there will be a higher risk and they cannot discount costs over a fixed contract period, they will either ask for a very higher upfront installation cost with a moderate prepaid fee or they will have the standard installation cost and a very high prepaid cost.

Either way it will then disqualify most of the target market.
 
I'd recommend that they rather go for wireless (HSDPA in particular) Internet solutions, because they offer options for much cheaper than ADSL (even 384kbps).
 
Thanks guys. good comments and advise. in dealing with affordability situations reality should always prevail when looking for options that work. Personally I am bit biased towards adsl and consider it the rolls of the lot with out requiring a bank of your own to afford it. still have memmories not long ago of been let loose to download 20g + in one solid session (exuberance of youth)which is something not ever possible on 3g. Whenever i have been on 3g just always seem to have an unfortable feeling of being royally screwed over somehow. still maintain though that even if there might some cost implications the option should still exist in pre-paid form.

ADSL and the standard voice line is hardly a fixed contract at the moment, you only have to give 30 days notice to cancel. In fact it would benefit Telkom MORE to have prepaid ADSL because then instead of getting its income 1 month in arrears, they would get it 1 month in advance.

In fact the main reason Telkom won't allow ADSL on a prepaid voice line is because of the substantial difference in voice line rental charges between a standard residential line and a prepaid residential line. This ties in very closely to naked ADSL. You can imagine that if Telkom allowed ADSL on its prepaid voice lines how many people would switch over to prepaid, thereby costing Telkom substantial lost revenue.
 
I didnt take difference in line rental in account, of course you are correct. then the whole discussion then returns back to start looking for a way for the consumer with " bad credit " to be be able to get ADSL . He cant pass credit vetting but can pay cash. Doesnt look like there exists an option except for prepaid 3g. Telkom needs to be able to sell a landline to just about anyone possible yet with current economic situation they practically have to exclude close on 50% of all active credit consumers as potential customers. My understanding of business is that business must be able to grow & prosper during good times & be creative & resourcful during bad times to ensure survival. suppose in great scheme of things topic i'm bringing up lacks signifance but does it not speak of a business that appears to be a great business when things are good yet when things are bad lacks the real depth required to ensure its survival as it is unable to innovate aggressively to stop losing customers or totally ignoring million of potential customers. way i see it celll phone companies must be laughing there heads off as they literally being hand delivered hordes of customers for there pre paid business daily as recession continues to bite.
Suppose that if by some miracle overnight the recession ended & economy recovered to normal this entire conversation would become pureley academic . as once again the " bad credit" consumer became the minority as apposed to the current mess where he's fast becoming the majority!

Thanks for this pointer.

I am looking at getting an internet access package for my child who's moving into an flat close to the Uni he will be attending.

He will be moving in early December, and was looking at the best way to get him connected. I was wondering of getting a Telkom line installed would be an option, but this 8ta package seems pretty good. I've never heard of them till now.

I have a couple of 7.2gb unlocked modems which I expect should be OK.
