Devaluation of the Rand maybe? SARB has been buying dollars hand over fist in the last year, it is an excellent opportunity to cover those losses and stop subsiding the americans. In short term it should give exporters a bit of a boost, Huh?

Gosh yes! As we all know, when the rest of the world stops trading we continue to sell, sell, sell.
I agree with the statement that these calls from the outside appear to look "mindless" however the people making these calls have other agendas and do not tell the truth as to why they make these calls.
On the one hand Malema et al make the calls to appeal to poor uninformed people, the masses, be they young or old, who probably think they are going to benefit from such a move, to garner their support, but fail to understand they are just being used.
If Nationalisation became policy in South Africa, the mind boggles at the complexity of such a move, the disinvestment alone would kill all the marginal mines from the outset and only those mines that dig out minerals that are critical to world production like Platinum will carry on and likely not at the profit levels they were before.
The call for Nationalisation is merely Malema's agenda at bailing out bankrupt BEE mining tycoons who suffered losses since 2007/2008 and the recession that followed. Malema, the mindless puppet, is speaking on behalf of these tycoons who want Government to take on their debt and buy their defunct mines, in other words their debt will become South Africa's debt and the stressed taxpayers will foot the bill.
South Africans should expose the sham and lies and set the record straight now before more damage is done to South Africa as an investment destination. The good image that was created from the 2010 Soccer World Cup has been thrown out the window by one man and his puppet masters. Expose them as enemies of the people and state.
From a financial point of view Nationalisation will never work on existing mines. What happened to the 26% that was given off to BEE shareholders from the various mining houses post 1994, or was that not enough. When will it be enough?
Government currently receives through direct and indirect taxation in the region of 50 to 60% of all profits made by the mining sector in South Africa witout any risk unto itself and that taxation is then given back in the way of services. Change that equation and put Government in charge, then 100% of the risk of each mine now rests in Governments hands and here is where things will fall flat as with this risk comes work and Government is not equipped to run mines and all the losses will become the burden of the taxpayers of South Africa, you and I, hence Malema et al in my opinion in hindsight of these statements are enemies of the people and the state. The costs of his "mindless" calls is going to run up into countless Billions of Rands, we will all be working paying taxes until we die to pay for his foolish talk.
Each time a new Malema is born, he and people like him will want to reinvent the wheel. He has no originality, probably never worked a day in his life, clueless to what he is saying, yet just blurts out his rhetoric whenever he feels like it and this is the person representing the Youth of South Africa, then I say poor youth, you are being led down the garden path by someone who cannot even spend one minute of his day helping the youth, but chooses to spout political mumbo jumbo every time he opens his mouth, thus abusing his position when he should be working day and night for the youth.

Nope, the ANC proper knows it would be economic suicide. Plus the companies are protected by international trade agreements.
Lastly it is contrary to our constitution and if they tried to push this through they would make EVERY sideline voter turn out for opposition parties. Considering the "hiding" the ANC got for their racist utterances in the last election, imagine the voter turnout should they decide to try nationalise. As it stands, in the 2011 local elections they only achieved a 62% victory there is no way they would achieve 66% with this policy as ANC policy. I would guess that they would drop to 58% effectively destroying their chance to change the constitution.

Think again. Julias is very busy reshaping things in the background. Current ANC leaders may be hesitant but in 5 years from now it will be a very different story. I pray you are right but realistically I fear you are not.

Which they cannot do without adequate votes... they need 66% no less. I will be doing my part by bringing my family and everyone else I know who doesn't vote to a polling station in the next election. It is time for our voices to be heard we cannot simply lie down and let the ANC destroy our beautiful country.
BTW breaking the trade agreements would result in sanctions again, you know, the trade restrictions that destroyed apartheid.

The problem is that Julias and co worship the likes of Mugabe, Kim Jong Ill and Chávez. They don't care about sanctions and trade restrictions.

The simple truth is that southern africa would become become a wreck overnight if this happened, all of our neighbors rely on us to such a great extent that they would all collapse.
The fall of zimbabwe was cushioned to a large degree by south africa, there is no cushion for south africa. Southern africa would simply collapse. And along would come riots, civil war and all that good stuff that african countries are famous for.
