i bought a mac min from the new mac store at the waterfront in cape town in early november. yipee i thought, a cheap upgrade on my aging G3 ibook i thought.

what basically has happened since november is that the machine died on me during the first week i had it then miraculously came back to life a few days later. i returned it to the store the first time only to have it returned to me a few days later, still frozen! i then sent it back on 15 december.

what has happened since is that i discovered that they had to send the machine to JHB for repairs but now it has come back over a month later still broken. the buck has now been passed to me since the technicians claim it is a software and not hardware problem

i have called to the store at least 50 times during the month and not a single time had anyone bothered to return a call. they are alway "busy". i have demanded my money only to be faced with a store manager with a "you broke it" attitude.

never buy from the mac store at the waterfront in cape town. their service sucks.

what do i do to get my money back so i can buy from a proper mac store.
 
Well, suggesting he buy a "hp or acer" is rediculous. Apple quality is much better than those. He has a problem with the service.
As far as I know all apple products are imported by zastore.co.za, so if you contact them, maybe they can help. Bwana might know more

For the future, I bought my Mac Mini at Project 3 near Cavendish Square in Claremont. Very friendly, helpfull and knowledgeable

BTW, what specifically happens? Does it not turn on?
 
the last time it died, it just died after i inserted a dvd. the machine is impossible to start up. no sound, nothing! all the advice i've had from mac forums point to a hard drive crash. if this was anywhere else in the world, i would have received a swop-out at the least. R6500 down the drain? hell no, i will take them on.

Sounds like a software problem to me, You have the OS restore disks, You need to hold the on switch for 20-25 secs and insert the restore disc. After following the instructions you up should be restored to the factor settings. |||| Warning you will lose all your information on the Mac ||||

I'll assume you've tried booting the hardware diagnostics that should have come with the mini - any issues there?

Have you tried booting off a second mac in firewire mode? That might give you an indication as to if its a hardware issue. If you've got the luxury of having an external firewire hdd why not do an install of the os onto it and see what happens. I've done it before with an iPod but its not really designed for it ;)

Chances are if it went to JNB it should have gone to core - part of the zastore group - as they seem to handle most of the repairs and they seem to be proficient. Have you tried project 3 or MacCentre as youre down in Cpt - assuming they're still around that is.

Mac's have a great warranty - I had problems with a powerbook last year that I purchased from overseas and they sorted out with out a hassle.

No offense intended Person but this is pretty much the last thing I would do. There are plenty of other things to try first. Also like all macs to boot from a cd/dvd you either start the machine holding the c key down or by holding the option key down at restart and choosing the start up disk you want.

Have you zapped the pram?

Does it start at all? If so you can hold down the mouse button to eject the disk.

discourse : Holding down the back power button for 20-30 secs doesn't start it?
My advice is to contact zastore and their backing company (Core Technologies or something like that). They should be responsable
 
Check your PM.

Have you tried zapping the pram? That resets the machine itself to factory defaults.
 
most if not all apple stores in SA SUCK big time! I won't buy a mac until bloody apple ups their standard when letting somebody sell their products!
 
Project 3 is awsome and I have heard great things about DigiCape. So there are many good ones
 
The store in question is the Apple flagship distributor in Cape Town. I'm shocked to hear how they didnt help! I was about to see Sizwe and ask them to keep a new iMac for me but I will now try elsewhere.

The point to buying from a physical shop is that you can take it back and get help from a human - clearly not applicable at the Waterfront :D
 
Which reseller runs the store at the waterfront?
