More police officers falling foul of the law

MORE policemen are being arrested for engaging in criminal activities in Gauteng, and Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has called for harsh sentences for those found guilty

In the latest incident yesterday, members of the Flying Squad arrested a police officer in Merafe Hostel in Mapetla, Soweto, for alleged theft of minibus taxis.

The officer was also found with an allegedly stolen VW Velocity car.

Jabulani Kunene, head of a taxi operator task team for the Randburg United Local and Long Distance Taxi Association, said one of the operators had lost three taxis in the last three weeks.

"Last week a Toyota Hi-Ace was stolen and found in Jabulani (Soweto). Yesterday, another Toyota Hi-Ace was stolen from the same taxi owner.

"At least 10 taxis have gone missing in the past two weeks and it is worrying us," Kunene said.

He said after a long search police found one of the missing taxis at Merafe Hostel yesterday.

He said the recently formed task team had recovered 10 minibus taxis in the past few months.

Mthethwa said: "Any police officer found guilty of colluding with criminals or involved in criminal activities deserves to rot in jail. In fact, the punishment of such 'criminals in blue uniform' should be the harshest than that of normal criminals."

On Friday, Major General Michael Mohlala appeared in the Vanderbijlpark magistrate's court for allegedly making bomb threats and "intimidating" senior police officers in the province.

Damn straight, I agree wholeheartedly that cops should be dealt with a LOT more harshly than normal criminals.
 
This is happening all over. In Pietermaritzburg, 34 Fortuners and Hilux's were stolen in the last few weeks from the same neighbourhood. A family member had his Hilux stolen, and another owner in the same street had his stolen. Another 4 about 5k's away had theirs stolen. Most have trackers but they have been ripped out along the same road entering a township. There is a huge criminal group going around doing this and there is absolutely no interest from the cops, not even road blocks of any sort, which makes me think there are cops involved somehow.

This is one of the main reasons I do not want to purchase a Hilux / Fortuner.

Apparently the D4D engines and parts can be used for the Quantam taxis...
