I was looking at buying the Gigabyte CRT, but luckily before I went out and got it i did some research and came up with some interesting facts. 1st off the screen is ONLY available in south africa.. one of the resellers being rectron. I emailed gigabyte querying about the product and this is the reply i got.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, we do not produce CRT monitor but LCD model. As you said, you did not find the product info. on our website and we strongly recommend you do not buy such products. It might be fake one and we do not provide any service or warranty for the products.

so yeah dont buy gigabyte CRT. they are some funny make rebraned at Gigabyte.

Strange. In the latest Rectron pricelist:

GD-CT17C01 Gigabyte® Dual Tone 17" CRT - 0.27mm Dot Pitch - MPR II - 3yr Warranty
GD-CT17F01 Gigabyte® Dual Tone 17" Flat CRT - 0.26mm Dot Pitch - MPR II - 3yr Warranty
GD-CT19C01 Gigabyte® Dual Tone 19" CRT - 0.26mm Dot Pitch - MPR II - 3yr Warranty
GD-CT19F01 Gigabyte® Dual Tone 19" Flat CRT - 0.25mm Dot Pitch - MPR II - 3yr Warranty

Maybe somebody must inform Rectron about this, as well as Gigabyte.

Thanks for the head up as I was looking at one as well.
There is definitely something fishy here as the ONLY websites I could find selling item (GD-CT19F01) via google is in the .co.za domain ???.

And it is rather odd that a local distributor would not use the same model numbers and codes as the overseas supplier.

I see no CRT monitors in their website.

yup, best as I can tell gigabyte didnt make a crt range ever.
the "dualtone" range doesnt seem to be a gigabyte range either...perhaps that can tie up with another manufacturer, but seeing as they have the cool little official gigabyte registered trademark sign by the name on their pricelist this could end up being very interesting

*marks thread for lurking*

Have googled for "Dual Tone 19 Flat CRT -site:.co.za", and the only mention of "Gigabyte Dual Tone" is on the SA sites with a .net domain...

Seems this description fits CRTs from Dell, Philips, Viewsonic, etc. but no Gigabyte! Would be interesting to know where these b@st@rds source these screens!

China? - a lot of things come out of there nowadays.

Perhaps gigabyte is registered locally here as a trademark without being connected to an overseas company.

Does the name ViewTronix sound familiar to anyone here in SA?
Believe it or not there's even two MAJOR copier vendors in SA that sells rebranded RICOH's under their own name, sometimes you just need to lift the NAS... Ooops! label stuck on it.

Well, you know, I just sold two of them (the 17" modles) last week, they look mightily like the AOpen ones, just a different name on them, I guess its to go with the new 5-in-1 (case, speakers, keyboard, mouse, PSU) Gigabyte brand systems Rectron is selling, you know, to maintain a brand cohesion or something.

Well, anycase, they have nice clear images and good color depth.

Has anyone found out for sure who manufactured this Monitor Gigabyte 19" CRT?

The Gigabyte and the Aopen A90e are both Tatung VM9G models with different branding. On the Aopen it seems the EDID is slightly different to that of the Gigabyte, but they are exactly the same models...
