So sick of Telkom and there ****.

We have a 4meg line, 4 meg contract and it's been the same for around 6 years.

Whenever something big goes wrong the first excuse they try give me when the line does not sync properly is that it is a best effort service and I must downgrade.
After me calling, complaining and carrying on as if my only job is to call Telkom for weeks on end they finally relent and come out to fix the problem properly.

The last time it happened a truck went through the telephone cables next door to our factory pulling them off the pole and breaking some poles in the process.

I finally managed after 2weeks (that is 2 weeks without a business line, entire exchange redirected to one cell phone and faxes not happening, 2 weeks of an entire company surfing on 3g) to get them to come out and do a temporary patch. They patched the line for us with 2n'd hand indoor cabling leaving the line lying on the road in the front of the factory. It took me about 2 months after that to get them to come resolve the issue. Instead of fixing it properly they left a pole out (so the line was still on the floor) and then another 6 weeks later they finally "fixed" the lines. Half the exchange lines were dead and internet was extremely intermittent. Another 2 months later and they fixed the exchange, the internet took another week of begging and pleading.

All was well (except a few minor glitches) till the 3'rd of this month.
Our line was dead when I arrived at work, I called them at 08:30 and there teccie came out at around 3:30pm to "fix" the problem.
It was fine for about 30 minutes after he left then it started becoming very intermittent, Called Mweb (they told me it was syncing at 600kbps) and they logged a fault.
Been calling telkom and Mweb constantly since.

Today when I called they informed me that I am to far from the exchange so they have dropped my line to 1Meg. After lots of complaining and explaining it has been working perfectly for most of 6 years till there "teccie" came and fixed it they told me "a technician will look at it", of course getting a date (let alone a time) from them is impossible.
Back to moaning and complaining for another 6 months I guess.

/end rant

Nice to have a monopoly...

Well they have put the line back to 4meg and it is working but not stable at all. At least they have given up trying to downgrade me to a 1meg line.
I am still waiting for them to send out a technician to come fix it (as I have been since the 3'rd).
13 days and counting.

Its not what you know its who you know. Get a telkom techie. pay him. wala fixes all problems.

Been seriously considering asking the boss for some bribe money for when the oke eventually pitches up.

How does R100 for his private cell number and then R200 per call afterward sound? :D
