Barcelona – Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has accused Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho of “wrecking Spanish football” following the European champions' stormy Spanish Super Cup win on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi scored a late volley to seal a 5-4 aggregate victory over Real in a pulsating encounter that saw red cards shown to three players after tempers boiled over at the end resulting in a mass brawl.

“Mourinho is wrecking Spanish football,” Pique told reporters. “People are looking for culprits but they are in Madrid. Someone needs to get the video, analyse it and say who is to blame.”

A bad-tempered run of five 'clasicos' last season has seen the heated rivalry between the clubs grew ever more acrimonious.

Mourinho, who was punished by Uefa following his actions after the Champions League semifinal against Barca, accused Barcelona of play-acting to influence referees while their arch-rivals countered that Real were overly aggressive.

“We hope that on Thursday everyone will be talking about a great game of football and not the melee,” added Pique, a World Cup winner with Spain.

“It isn't the first time this has happened ... it is always the same people. Someone needs to sort this out.”

Real defender Marcelo's lunging tackle on substitute Cesc Fabregas in the final minute of the game had players and both benches jostling and arguing.

Marcelo and Real teammate Mesut Ozil were sent off, as was Barca's David Villa.

In the post-match news conference, Mourinho accused Barca players of going to ground easily.

“Marcelo got a red card because we all know what happens after tackles in certain areas of the pitch,” the Portuguese said.

“It was a spectacular game from the first to last minute. But from the first minute of the second half, and I don't criticise it because I know people do it, the ballboys hid the balls. (Barca were winning 2-1 at this point).

“It happens with small teams when they find themselves in difficulties.”

During the melee of players and management staff, television pictures appeared to show Mourinho sneak up behind Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova and poke him in the eye.

When asked about the incident, Mourinho replied: “I have been polite and played like a man and not fallen to the ground at the first touch. I don't know who Vilanova is.”

Barca coach Pep Guardiola told reporters: “The images will speak for themselves. This is going to end up badly if it isn't stopped soon.” – Reuters

Aslong as Barca players continue to dive...these games will always finish with guys getting sent off.

The Barca players are always rolling around like they've been hit by Pierre Spies and trying to get their opposition players booked.

They are more at fault, take the log out of your own eye Pique :D

Anyone watch the match last night? When all the players got into a tussle right at the end, Mourinho is just standing there behind all of them, then he randomly walks up behind a Barca assistant and grabs his ear :D

I only watched from the second half onwards, but same ol Barca. Didn't see any diving, but when Messi got blocked off by Pepe, he went down holding his face when there was no impact to his chest upwards. Also Pique got slapped in the face by Pepe, but he stays up and waits for the ball, then when he realises he can't get to the ball, he suddenly goes down.

it was an eye gouge.

Mourinho is a living legend. It would be great to see him back in the EPL one day.

Apart from their disgusting play-acting, I still think Barca play the most entertaining and effect football. It's their filthy c-nt players that are 'wrecking football' more than anything else imo. I just hope they don't turn Fabregas into a little c-nt like most of them are. That would be sad to see.

Fabregas is a c-unt for leaving. Wenger made him into the player he is. Lets hope he doesn't get injured and broken for the season.

I don't blame Cesc for 'going home'. If you were him, would you have stayed at the Arsenal?

Spanish and Portugese players are pansies, they got alot of talent but they spoil it with their diving around.

It will be interesting to see if Cesc can bring a bit of class to Barca on field antics, but I fear he will be rolling and face cluthing soon.

Cesc fitness is fine. The hamstrings etc was just Arsenal lying to its fans about the transfer saga of their captain. Cesc will get his game time and I don't think he will spend as much time on the bench as most ppl think. He will be world class soon, just a pity it will not be at Arsenal.

I only saw the first half so can not comment on the mass melee. Mouh poking somebody in the the eye, sad I missed that. :D

What, he's the biggest **** of them all. Losing himself in the brawl in order to get away with what he did. He's a thug. He condones his own players to get involved. It's bad enough that players can act like ****s themselves but to have a manager acting like one as well just makes things worse at the end of the day. Classless twat.

Meh. Mourinho is very entertaining. That's why I like him. And his players kick the sh-t out of Barca players at every chance they get - added bonus me thinks.

Both sets of players can be dicks - especially when they play each other.

Ok, if that's your idea of entertainment, then I can't argue with you.

Ah so it was. I was watching on a crappy stream so quality wasn't that good :(

Mourinho is one of those moffies that has alot to say, but when it comes down to it. They 1st to run. Good Manager, but still poking the guys eye and then walking away. Cowardous

On the Cesc saga discussion: He wanted to go home, like someone mentioned. Footballers are still human after all. He probably missed his family and feels more at home Barca, but still can't see where he is going to fit in.

Like I said - it's Mourinho that I find entertaining. I don't condone what he or his players do but where else would you get to see such nonsense in a high profile match? I suppose it's because I don't take him seriously (how can I when he talks about himself in the third person so often). Same when he was at Chelsea (and Inter) - never shy to trash-talk. He's kinda like a manager version of Eboue.

a True legend. Yes he sometime steps over the line like now. But I will take a winner like mou over an incompetent fat fellow any day of the week.;)

I don't have any sympathy for barca, the way they acted during our cl semi still makes my blood boil.

Leave him out of it. He might have made mistakes in his career, but he's a decent bloke outside of football. Jose spends his spare time outside of football staring at himself in the mirror....me...me..me...me.

You can have your winners, I would prefer a decent manager that is in it for the game and the club. The club is more important than anyone and anything.
