Purpose:
Responsible for daily maintenance, optimization of table structures, DB performance and SQL queries. Needs to provide architectural recommendations and research in terms of MySQL databases, global replication and warehousing.
Key Responsibility Areas:
a. Database: Focussed in the Database Administration activities of MySQL 4 & MySQL 5 databases.
b. Support: Support and maintenance of the existing database infrastructure in 2 instances, with one instance being global with various nodes across the globe.
c. Standby: Standby, on call and support of MySQL databases.
d. Architecture: Architecture and design recommendations and implementations, in terms of future expansion.
e. Documentation: Author documents as required.
f. Mentoring: Mentor and coach the Engineering team through their knowledge growth and domain knowledge cycles. Mentoring also takes place by means of peer reviews and recommendations on the SQL structure used in code.
g. Coding: PHP/Java/C coding skills will be advantageous, as from time to time coding is required to automate reports.

a. Assertiveness: ability to convince others of right course of action and to explain a point of view convincingly.
b. Verbal Communication: good interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills and able to communicate clearly.
c. Written Communication: ability to write clear and concise documents, etc.
