Vodafone (ZTE) K3805-Z (14.4MBit) Modem: MicroSD Card issues

Hi Guys,

I recently acquired a new Vodafone K3805-Z modem, but for some reason, whenever I copy something to the MicroSD card, as soon as I unplug the device, and plug it back, the data is either corrupted or the disk needs to be formatted.

I've tried several computers, as well as 2 microsd cards that I know work 100%. I've formatted the cards to fat, fat32, and ntfs, I played around with block/sector sizes, splitting the files up into smaller chunks, safe unmounting, unsafe unmounting, scandisk, different ports, etc....nothing!

Has anyone else experienced this?


Also, I got this device on a good cash deal... REALLY GOOD. I want to know, does anyone know whether this product has been subjected to faking / product piracy, or anything of a similar nature? - The guy I got it from, looked dodge, but the modem was sealed in the proper Vodacom packaging, and all the contents is in mint condition as well, the device firmware, and USB Vendor ID seems to be the real deal. Another thing raising my suspicions, is signal quality, I live on the outskirts of the city, so I don't expect a good signal but at least, on my phone, I get around 2/3 bars on HSDPA, but with this modem I get 1, maybe 2 bars on 3G Only-mode, moving outdoors, this increases by 1 bar. Either the VMB software isn't reporting signal quality correctly, or a cellphone has a stronger receiver, or this is a fake modem with some el'cheapo electronics.


Any ideas?

Are you ejecting the device before unplugging it?

Have you tried using the rear USB ports, or a powered hub? Some USB ports, especially those on a front panel of a desktop PC are unable to supply sufficient power.

Try measuring the signal strength in dBm, I don't think you can directly compare "bars" on your phone and in VMB.

Will try that now, I've never had any issues with my front usb ports in the past - I run notebook hard drives off them. But I will give the back one's a shot.

I know direct comparison of "bars" aint possible, I didnt know VMB can display dBm. Will look into it!

How do you know it is locked? Lemme explain. The one and only good thing that ICASA ever did was forbid the network locking of devices (phones, modems, etc) in the SA market. This was done well before the release of that particular modem. Because the software (Vodacom dashboard) doesn't allow other sims, people assume the device is locked. Tell us more about your situation.
