ADSL not an option - 3G the only way?

Hi forum,
I am very new to this although I have been following MBB for a while.

So I need some opinions. I live close to Ballito on the coast. Telkom says they cannot install lines in my complex as the place does not have infrastructure. Bummer. So I tried some 3G options:
Vodacom - no 3G, only Edge.
MTN - Low signal 3G.
Cell C - Line dropped a few times. Perhaps I should try it again.

Data bundles are expensive (R389 for 2GB from MTN) and my latency is okay. On BFBC I average 150 - 200.

Is there any other solutions I can look at?? Take into consideration I am in a poor coverage area.

I will enquire about Wimax and Iburst although on Ibursts website I am in a no coverage area.

I feel like moving hehhehehehhe.
 
Surely before you move into a new house or flat one of the first things you enquire about is the availability of a Telkom line? If Internet connectivity is important to people you then this should be at the top of your list of requirements when moving into a new place.

The antenna would largely depend on what type of signal you can get. It's difficult to say off hand. I know in Gauteng there are a few poynting stores where you can have a look at the range. Try and buy one that you can return in case you need a bigger/smaller one.

A really stupid thing to do (but might help) is to get on the roof of your place and see what signal strength you have up there from the different networks. If it's decent, then you can get away with a smaller indoor antenna. If it's still poor, then you may need to buy a proper external one - hence buy an antenna from somewhere that you can return/swap it.
