EASSy Cable Ready towards the end of 2007

What will this mean in relation to international bandwith for SA , will private companies be able to buy a share in the cable ,providing us with cheaper bandwith etc ?
 
Possibly, if Sentech decide to resell their bandwidth to other companies. Which they probably will
 
Probably not.
Sentech will just do what Telkom do. Why make bucket loads less cash if you dont have to?
 
They could make a killing if they start selling bandwith cheaper than Telscum. I reckon people would flock to them in droves which in turn would force telkom to drop their prices. But this being south africa... prolly not.
 
Sneeky : Well, to convince all the ISP's to use them rather than Telkom, which they already know and have a history with, they will need to provide some incentive. How big this incentive will be is debatable though
 
Just don't understand why the big ISP's did not go for a stake in the cable....especially MTNNS whom does have a legal right to selft provide.
 
JStrike, dont misunderstand me. The marketing model is sound, Im just not holding my breath. The same players in the same market with a new piece of wire.
I reckon bandwidth costs will remain largely unaffected with extra services being incorporated into the deals/packages as sweetners. Hope I am wrong though.
 
Sihra pointed out that the milestones set in 2003 have slipped, but that the project will be completed towards the middle of 2007

Agg noo, is this the usual story - to whose benefit will this play to? Definitely not the consumers. :(
