I am currently living in Korea and it is possible to get a top of the range smart phone with unlimited data for around the equivalent of R350.

This means most people simply use apps such as KakaoTalk - the most popular app here - to send messages and communicate and hence save costs and never exceed their call limits thus the bill at the end of the month is always the same.

I want to know why it is possible for countries like Korea and various others to offer unlimited 3G and now slowly even 4G data for a fairly reasonable price and yet in South Africa the fees are ridiculous - even with vodacom's new "price cuts"?

Is it a case of us being screwed by the networks or are their technical restrictions which force the networks to limit our usage?

Cheers.
