Can anything be done to speed up Telkom's exchange upgrade?

I moved house on the 1st of June and during the preceding month, tried to organise with Telkom to move my number and ADSL to the new address so that it would work from the 1st. I kept in constant contact with the same lady from Telkom and she was very helpful and reliable.

Unfortunately, she said we could neither move our number nor apply for a new number because there was an open order or project or something to that effect, meaning the exchange was scheduled for upgrade and nothing could be processed until the upgrade was done. "The planned date for service delivery" was September. So we had no ADSL or even a phone line but decided to tough it out for 4 months until the exchange was upgraded.

We continued to keep in touch with the same lady from Telkom and every month that passed, she said "The planned date for service delivery" was delayed. It's currently scheduled for "next financial year" which is beyond ridiculous. The neighbours have ADSL so we know the exchange has the capability, we just can't get an application for a phone line to go through.

Has anyone experienced this problem and is there anything I can do to stop the delays? I would happily phone Telkom everyday if I knew they would eventually get annoyed enough to do something about it.

Edit: The Telkom lady is in the escalations department.

sadly thats usually the only way to make things happen. putting on a disappointed and unhappy face at their direct store helps too

Terrorism is about the only real solution...

You mean like sabotage the exchange so it's messed for everyone, thereby forcing them to come fix it (and hopefully upgrade it)? :D

I'll start with emailing Pinky first.:p

Thank God. We don't need to stoop down to ANCYL levels. We're civilised. And if you can't get it, use alternative connectivity options.

I mean get hold of pinky and ransom her for a better exchange...

Telkom should get a namechange to Ineptitude LTD.

I applied for a line as well, understanding that this had to be done in order to get ADSL sorted out. That took a month, then I applied for ADSL on 1 August and was told it would take no more than 10 days.
After 2 weeks they told me there were no exchanges and the upgrade schedule on the system showed a waiting time of 30 to 40 Days.
It is now a month and a half later and I can't even get an ETA from anyone at Telkom. Some say there is a project underway, seems to me like its a damn long one that. Others tell me that they can't give me any info and keep telling me to call someone else.
And all along I'm paying for a phoneline I don't even want or use.
Its pathetic how this useless company can keep an entire country ransomed like this.

No, mess with your neighbours' line enough that they cancel their ADSL, then maybe you can get their port.

AFAIK, there are disputes between people in funding and network planning ... funding argues there are excess DSL ports, network planning says they are all in regions which have no unmet demand, funding argues the previous investment hasn't been recovered yet ... etc. etc. etc.

I am in the same position ...

Telkom & all ISP suck, services are bad, the best is 3G, it took me lest than a minute to download 300mb file, all isp's are robbing us, i also have a mweb 1mb speed line and it takes dam long to download files with average rate @ 28kb - 47kb per second, with my 3G its 780kb -1079kb per second...........!
