I've recently setup an ASTERISK box here at our office, stoked! I've tested it with the managers and they are happy to buy a couple SIP Phones for further development, stoked!
Firstly where would you suggest I buy from, any one in particular offer a wide range? Also I see plenty of relatively cheap Skype phones, are these able to be used as SIP phones within our local network on the Asterisk box? I see on the Skype phones things like SIP compatible that is why I ask?

The dualphone works with any voip client. You just lose many of the great features that you have when you use skype

Those are basically USB audio devices, have to work with software dialer or software client (SIP/IAX softphone) on computer (mostly windows based), not a real hardware phone.

Are you sure?
I could not get it to work with firefly and on contacting evenflow they said it would only work with skype.

We have three products available for sell at www.digitalplanet.co.za The USB Adaptor USB-B2K works with both normal telephone and cordless phone costs only 1/3 of the dual phone. The latest Skype 2.0 compatible Dialer for the Adaptor is available for download at www.skypenow.net/SkypeMate 2.0.exe There is also USB Handset AU-100 works with not only Skype, but also Voipbuster, Net2phone, X-pro, Firefly, SJphone, eyeBeam etc over 15 different softphones, the dialer is available to download at www.skypenow.net/USB Dialer.exe This is definitely the most cost efficient option. Our Flash Drive Phone EU-200 has sound-card and softphone built-in, with 128MB memory capacity, weighs 30g, might be of interest for the laptop users due to its portable design.

We have about 7 different kinds of VoIP phones at the office, ranging from CISCO, Grandstream, AAstra, Swissvoice etc etc, the BEST ones I worked on so far is the Swissvoice and SNOM. The CISCO Gateway (use a normal telephone on it) works GREAT, but obviously it doesn't have a digital display. It is perfect to implement in an existing PABX system. (IE, link your old PABX to your new VoIP PABX)

the BEST ones I worked on so far is the Swissvoice and SNOMAlso depends on your usage requirments.
While the above models are the best if cost is no object, they are difficult to justify in a pure Internet VoIP usage scenario where budget is usually far less than that for (high usage) PBX replacement/augmentation.
While there is no definative price/performance winner, the Grandstream Budgetones are as close as I've found. While hardware is a bit tacky when compared to say a SNOM, the firmware is a lot more similar in terms of performance & stability, and at 2-3 times cheaper it may be reasonable compromise if budget is tight.

Anyone know of a Hardware SIP phone that supports POTS "Pass through", something like the USB-B2K (http://www.skypephones.co.za/default.asp?pageID=759622165&productID={A0745DEB-430B-45A6-AEEA-349E1AD02E32}), basically I wan to be able to use one analogue telephone ring for both pots and voip incoming calls.
I already have the B2K, and it's great, except the pc has to be on 24/7 - bit cr@p!
Edit: ok, found this one HT-386 (http://www.grandstream.com/y-ht386.htm), don't get why it's priced the way it is (more than others with WAN port), but OK, looks like it can do it, anyone using on of these.
