Description
“Always on” Shaped 256k Digital connection to the Internet.;
Faster Downloading after-hours and weekends;
3 free e-mail boxes.;
Dynamic Real IP.;
Download managers and p2p programs (e.g Kazaa) only after hours;
Unlimited Downloads (no Caps);
Contention Ratio 1:20

All looks good, but Activation and Installation = R2450, and that's steep!
Contention Ratio is great and no caps!
Never the less, a good alternative.

Now all they have to do is put some base stations in Durban... :-)

Good for them... I'm glad something's happening here. Let's hope the archaic law regarding wireless networks gets removed for good.

Ow... 256k 1:20 ratio...? Still a long way to go, or am i missing something. Obviously theyre trying hard though. BTW - all the experts out there - how does 1:20 fare on 256k?

Unfortunately the law still prohibits the ‘free’ use of this technology for Internet or other telecoms provisioning but as UniNet have shown the law is archaic and prohibitive especially in a country with a fixed-line monopoly.

So what is actually allowed here? Someone can explain? No doubt this is good, but I would like to understand it all..

was thinking the same, but it is uncapped. I wonder what the latency is like. hrm i wonder if there are capped for cheaper solutions. i don't mind a big cap for cheap, not everyone wants use p2p

Seeing as Telkom has been said to be at around 50:1 , the 20 contention is very good. Even some DSL providers in the UK have a 50:1 contention. I used to use that 256k service.. got 10-20ms pings to game servers and local/international speeds always maxed at 32KB/s.

R799 for 256K...isn't that a bit expensive?

For an uncapped service I would say its pretty effing good compared to Telkom Saix.

Makes sense - so it's not as bad as it looks... and digital? hmm... sounding better. This is certainly looking good considering that you can pay someone else 100% of your dosh instead of 70% telkom, 30% other (split between other and telkom 90/10).

btw... 50:1 in the uk is probably alot more like 10:1 here considering 24mbps and big intl pipes.... 50:1 is not bad considering the 60+ million total population as opposed to our 44 odd million with a tiny portion of that actually using the web.
