Copyright is far too long. I have no sympathy for these pathetic, lying, thieving major labels.

Well please show us your full financial records and prove not only that you are on the verge of going out of business, but also the exact cause. Couldn't do that though, it would expose the shady accounting practices of your industry.

If they ever actually managed to stop downloading they'd be left with no scapegoat.
 
Its a known fact that Recording labels especially south africa don't pay out all royalties to artists, instead they stick it into their back pocket!.

How about bringing the price of a CD or DVD down to a reasonable level so we, well i, dont have to 'steal' off the net??

No, instead they choose to take the hardline of apparently fighting for their lives or whatever with RIAA lawsuits left right and centre, turning this whole thing into something of a war...

I think we all know who is winning....

R150 a cd is plain ridiculous, especially if there are only 3 good tracks on it. These guys are losing the battle and will keep on losing it unless they start adopting the new distribution channels and learn how to use it to everybody’s advantage.

Gallo was taken to court a few years ago. I unfortunately do not have the details but will try and find them. In the USA movie actors had to take movie companies to court to obtain their share of profits(contractually agreed) when videos made their appearance. The movie companies insisted that since it was a new medium, that it was not covered by the original contract. Of course when videos appeared they were also massively overpriced because it was a new medium

@Noxibox: I can actually imagine them losing billions anually. Remember it's only via internet downloads that they can estimate lose revenue. Lots of people do piracy by buying copied games/music etc.

Having said that, the music industry should've implemented online music buying far earlier.

Losing implies that they would have otherwise gained that revenue and we know this is not the case.

i'm with you bwana.

This has been and always will be exactly my point when people blindly cry pirate. And they tend to do that a lot.

If i dl something that i was never going to spend money on in the first place, dont sell it on to anyone else, or give it to anyone that would have spent money on it, then how am i stealing and how is anyone losing out??
