If Telkom cannot do it, then why should the SNO ?
 
At least they are saying that they are going to lower costs.

Agree with you in part - however, as long as these places get the connectivity, I am happy. And don't for a second think that the SNO won't be very vocal about the fact that they did it, and not Telkom + ANC.
 
Yes, the calls may be (fractionally) cheaper, but me thinks the infrastructure is going to be the same (costs) as T. How else would SNO make the business plan work? LLU won't work, not for as long as it is T's copper.

Tata has also sort of shown it's hand by selling DSL in India for $84 (R500), but not sure about the speed, spec, etc. Me thinks it should be closer to $40 (Euro30).....dream on T. ....SNO T. Thank goodness some ouk registered snot.co.za before sno t did!!!
 
What exactly coprises LLU? Is it the unbundling of "Telkoms" infrastructure, or the "allowing" of own infrastructure.

If the latter, SNOT can self provision with wiMAX and fibre / power lines?

I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now - no good shooting them down before they start (will be PLENTY of time for that later, and with much gusto - should they deserve it :D )
 
What I don't understand is why the SNO is supposed to pay R100 Million for the licence and 0.1% of income when the governement wants to reduce telecoms prices. These costs are going to passed on to the consumer. Don't they realise this?

Obviously some can't think that far!!

Still better than government earning revenue from a company they own 30% of.
