This week, an Icasa official said they were back in limbo. "We have drafted a discussion document but we are waiting for formal approval on whether to go ahead," she said.

There are rumours that the (communications) minister will soon issue a declaration that it is an essential facility. We continued to draft the documents looking at the issues and the legal position for an inquiry, but now it's a matter of whether there will be a ministerial determination."

Icasa wrote to the communications department in October asking for clarity, but has not had a reply.

Useless Ivy strikes again. What good riddance it would be when her term is finished. How can she do her job and not feel bad about being paid for it when she does absolutely ****all?
 
This is what amazes me - we have the independant communication authority who once they have done some work wait for one person to decide if it should be implamented

Good 'ol Poison Ivy. Getting a big fat salary, driving a luxury german vehicle (no doubt), living in a mansion, and all for doing sweet fanny adams. Life's good at the top.
 
I like the government's transparency. All out in the open, with total honesty and disclosure.

Now I can calculate my taxes with the same level of transparency.
 
there is some info indicating that lyndall shope-mafole will be in the hot seat come july

this would not be a bad thing - telecomms engineer come policy expert who really does know the field and has lots of experience
 
Have you guys noticed that Poison Ivy seems to come alive for short periods of time just after the State of the Nation speech by the President?

Last year, The President complained about the high telecoms costs. Immediately, Poison Ivy came out of hibernation and made a statement to (I think) finally accept the shareholding structure of the SNO.

This year, chances are that the President will again mention the high telecoms costs. And what do you know! Here comes Poison Ivy again after months of hibernation (her income keeps coming through though!) to make a declaration!

It's no wonder why the DoC is SO incompetent. How can they do their job when the person who leads them clearly has no interest in their job?

Yup its that time, 1yr ago there was a promised reduction in costs. Lets see what happends today.

This EASSy cable sounds very interesting. Is this more "pie-in-the-sky" promises, or could this be a very real solution to our problem? Is the SNO a stakeholder?
 
Our Government is truly depressing.....
I do some work for the DOJ (Justice Department)... Anywyays I had a meeting and there was this big shot political dude in the meeting. One of our arguments at the meeting is that as developers we should be allowed VPN access to monitor and rectify our software on their netowkr. We got the access and everything. But the speed is a bit slow to Telkom ADSL, [Put your ranting and raving about Telkom here]. Anyways this idiot of politician decides to commend Telkom on the technology they have implemented in this country.

Man I tell you I lost my top. I told him his a thief coz only ppl who ride the Telkom Gravy Train actually like Telkom. The rest of us hate em. I gave him the long speech about how much cheaper and more effecient I would be able to do My job if Telkom did their jobs, etc etc etc. I told him is a Political Ape. Monkey see monkey do. Monkey on the seat with a bannana in his right hand and a SL500 set of keys in the other. Ha ha ha.... He got so offended he had me escorted out the Building.... On my way out I kept on speaking Loudly that this guy was illeterate... and that he did know how to read while laughing histarically.... You should have seen the look on his face....
 
Well i cant technically get fired as i contract out to them.
1) I am the only person who has the source code in my head the inner workings for their applications. So if they wanna "fire me" its going to take some time before someone else gets to understanding my code...
2) Freedom of speech and they can k*ss my a**!!!! There's alot of business out there. And I am def not dependent on the DOJ :P So they can stick it where the sun dont shine.
 
Moosag, no matter that you spoke the truth, what you did was unprofessional. If you came before me petitioning for a contract, no matter how good you are, I would not contract you as there is always the chance some issue would cause you to "lose my top" and jeopardise the project. There is no substitute for professionalism in business.

This lack of accountability is bullsh1t.
