FYI: Highlights from yesterday

ADSL static IP is about to be offered to the public.
It will be possible to purchase/lease a static range.

Line rental costs will be coming down - confirmed.

There was mumbilings on increased cap from 3Gb to 5-6Gb.
With packages for local content (also with 'soft' cap/slowdown)

This wasnt in writing, but they wanted us to approach our customers with these offerings to be available to order in the next 2 months.

Great news! Will update when we get written report on Tuesday.

I think it has more to do with the ICASA regulations. Static IP's in the draft regulatiuons and a higher cap... It will look good for them if they act before the hearings.
 
rpm ... since when does telskum care about ICASA or anyone/anything else .... they have the gov in their 'back pockets' .... if there is any truth to this, then they have something else up their sleeves and I am sure we will soon find out what it is ... as usual ... give an inch ... take a mile ... seems to be telskum moto
 
It's about time the line rental made a downward shift again. Cap sizes and prices per GB need an overhaul, but everyone knows that already. R60/GB is just madness.

When a 3GB cap costs less than R50 then we're on the right track.

Possibly, but I think that the SNO rearing it's head is scaring them more, ICASA won't put them out of business where the SNO could. Telkom has alot of angry customers out there, so they have got to start earning brownie points soon.

They can say anything they want, if it isn't in writing with dates attached, it means nothing. They will of course say that just so you stick with them, as they know the SNO is coming.

Telkom will muster the advertising gurus to concoct a new spin, that due to improvements in technology etc and their hard work they can now decrease the price of line rental..bla bla bla...

"Due to our recent retrenchments as well as the upcoming SNO rollout - which is scaring us sh1tless, we are reducing our ADSL prices from extremely high, to disgustingly high. We hope you choke."

Telkom's release of any new service or price is only ever based on the following.

1. Legal action taken by ICASA

2. Competition (There is none)

Based on the above, the Only reason telkom are releasing higher CAPS and Static IP addresses is to kill Internet Solutions, who are barley coping at the moment.

Having said that, why does Telkom not have an uncapped product? (Or is it hidden away on their site).
 
so is 5 - 6 gig going to be their minimum offer ? its not enough! It should be unlimited!
