MTN messages ( sms ) realy so expencive??

Hi ppl...I recently went over to MTN....Excellent service with fast communications, but their SMS's.......Is it REALY so expensive???..Geez....Off-peak, they STILL charge 75c...whereas Vodacom is only 35c..Can this be true??
 
I have been asking myself the question on SMSs a while know. Im a bit slow on the technology front.
I see it as such; The broadcast from a tower to your phone showing which tower your phone receives from, is text. That is not charged for.
Then a 'please call me sms' is also free. Im mean we all know thats probably the most used call in Africa. So thats not charged for.
Why do we still need to pay so much for any text message ?
 
get a bulk sms deal i think R35 for 100 smses.

@ yogotta: a please call me is free to the end user but someone has to pay for sending the message over the network. if you have a look there's always some kind of advert included in the please call me, so its paid for by advertising.
 
Try sending mmses (text only) when you can. This will save a LOT of money, as one 180 character mms costs less than a cent :)

Please help me with this one ... I thought if you route an MMS it costs a fixed amount of 90c (or something like that) irrespective of the content?

Maybe on other networks, but its not like that on MTN

Not a surprise, considering an SMS is a whole 70bytes... voice chews far more traffic!

Sending from your cellphone:
You will be charged 90 cents per message sent from your cellphone, to any network, regardless of how big or small your message is.
 
Can anybody confirm or deny that sending a text MMS costs only a cent or so? Sounds like BS to me.
