I'm looking for a monitor with a resolution a fair bit higher than full HD (2560 x 1440), and around 27". I found the Dell UltraSharp U2711, but nobody seems to have stock. Are there any alternatives that are available locally? The Apple Cinema Display LED would be an option, if it wasn't so ridiculously overpriced.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply - I actually emailed them with a stock inquiry early this morning and didn't receive a reply, which usually sets off alarm bells for me when it comes to online stores, specially with it comes to spending this much cash. If you've dealt with them before though, perhaps I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Don't think they do unfortunately. Pity, it's obviously the best price I've seen.

@Wynsam : thanks, their site says no stock, but I've mailed them to ask just in case

@Rock Bottom : That is indeed a beautiful monitor, but far out of my pricerange

Surprises me that even in this day and age, some companies don't answer their emails, even with so much as a "we've received your email, we'll look into it".

I can vouch for Landmark as well. Even picked up hardware from them after hours.

It's most likely that since your item isn't the kind of thing they keep in stock, they've had to contact their suppliers. Having dealt with many different suppliers, it's very rare for them to get back to you within 24 hours in regards to "specialist" hardware. I've sometimes had to wait up to a week :/

Oh I can understand them not being able to get back to me with the stock info immediately - but not even acknowledging an email within 24 hours is quite shocking for an online retailer. There are many local stores with service that has blown me away - email replies within minutes and employees going out of their way to stay in touch / keep you informed. In a case where it's not an item that isn't stocked by many places - I'd rather give the stores with good service my money.

Business must be good, fsck them if they can't be bothered replying. Name & shame them so the rest of us know to avoid them.

That's a definite +1 from me aswell. Or even an auto responder, as horrible as they are.

I just can't understand that attitude.

Well the online stores that were recommended in this thread are the ones that didn't bother replying. 48+ hours later and no response, so I think it's safe to say they don't check their email or aren't interested in R7k+ worth of business.

Anyway, since I can't source the Dell monitor - does anyone know of any reputable sources (online or in CPT, and that sell to the public) for an Apple LED Cinema Display 27" at a price that isn't a ridiculous R11.3k? I realise the pricetag is probably controlled by the small number of importers and the overinflation of worth because it's an Apple product - but perhaps someone knows a place where they can be sourced a little cheaper?

Edit - I have seen this one: http://www.i-stuff.co.za/store/product_info.php?products_id=172 - but I've never heard of these guys, and frankly I don't trust an online store that doesn't even notice that it's main header image is broken :/

R11.3k doesn't sound too bad. Doubt it'll get much cheaper because of Core etc.

I've seen Dell 27" at my suppliers in Cpt before, think they were around R8,000. This was before the 30% tax increase, however...
