South African justice system going high-tech

Hmmm, all I can see happening is a lot of new computer equipment being stolen and then the excuse will be the same as all the other government departments.... "The system is down".
 
How about saying it's about time. Here is to hoping for an improved justice system.
 
I am glad to see that they are trying to improve the Justice system, as it seriously needs the overhaul.

I just hope that this does not become another white elephant failed plan from our government

I certainly hope the system is well secured, backed up properly and all events appropriately logged.

Yep I guess that there will be a lot of training.
If this is going live next month there must be one hell of a roll out plan to get equipment and connectivity to all Police stations and courts - I wonder who the service providers are?
 
Where there is a will, there is a way. Corruption will prevail as always
 
Good news that Judge Bertelsmann is involved. He is involved in the local German community...really solid character. I doubt he knowledgeable about IT matters but his judgement of situations (legal or otherwise) is world-class. So if he thinks this will help then I'm all for it...

No doubt there will still be corruption,but this system should make it a whole lot more difficult for them to scam out case files etc...

Im glad they doing this,im sure it will have proper traceability,that way any corrupt officials can be easily weeded out.

Heres hoping for a better justice system,its sad to see cases drag on,imagine if it happened to you and you were innocent?Also the guilty ones will find it 1000times harder to buy their way out of this as probably only high ranking officials will be able to edit/delete case files....and then also they can be traced.....

The problem with this system is that everything needs to be processed, from the moment a complaint has been laid. This is not a technological problem, but that of incompetence and corruption. All this system would be good for in preventing corruption is documents may longer be "lost" once entered into the system, provided it even gets that far.
 
A step in the right direction and long overdue.

Lets just hope that a judge doesn't leave his desktop, laptop or iPad unlocked with the access to the various servers.

And Your Honours please, I implore you! 'Password' is not a suitable password mkay! ;)

Having been involved with some projects at DoJ and sita I know the technology they're using is very secure records based (ie, records based means nothing that goes in can be deleted... which is a good thing in this case). Also it's the same as used by the British Ministry of Defense and the Australian Ministry of Defense. No system is perfect, and the bad guys will always find loopholes around it, but all in all it's a HUGE step forward for our justice system.
