Vodacom to drive home a nail in the coffin of rogue WASPs

WASPA said that while their members may lose lots of revenue with double opt-in solutions and rules..

Of course they'll lose lots of revenue - they won't be able to ROB unsuspecting innocent cellphone users anymore. From now on their revenue will be directly proportional to the number of idiots in SA who actively sign up for their nonsense.

Hallelujah! And while you are at it, invalidate all existing billing, and require the double opt-in to occur.

That's great news. Now the other providers just need to wake up and do the same. Otherwise the scammers that were on Vodacom will just move to MTN :(

Its a pity CPA didnt take care of this for us. Anyway...

CPA was in fact far too lenient on a lot of people, like all players in the telecommunications industry. Specifically, Telkom, MTN, Vodacom and Cell C.

This is a step in the right direction..

BUT I would also like the ability to block all WASP billing on an account, regardless of the double-opt in system.... and it should default to stop all WASP billing and the subscriber should have to phone the help desk to get it enabled on their account... much like international roaming.

Remember that the network operators get 40%-50% of each successful OBS bill, so although f@cking piracy, they still benefit. I would guess your very logical idea will NOT be implemented for this reason.

Oh I know it will never be implemented, because they profit from it..

But its the way it should be...

Fantastic new, if/when it actually happens.

Now can we have double-opt in for receiving all that SPAM (from Vodacom itself as well).

what exactly is a double opt in and how is it going to stop fraudulent billing. what if the last person to have my recycled number double opted in, will I still be safe?

Vodacom Lost too many Customers because of this............................

Vodacom Lost too many Customers because of this and they found out that customers thought Vodacom was cleaning their airtime Balance.
This Double Opt in is OFFICIAL from Vodacom and it will be implemented.

Vodacom is losing subscribers everyday never mind what Figures say.

They have now gone on the defense to plug all leaks.

You can expect more from them but i am quite happy they realised their pitfalls late.

Helps the other Operators to get more subscribers quicker.

M-Pesa failed miserably they have now corrected their mistakes as well.

Competition helps tremendously to get Companies up to scratch.

However this sort of rule needs to come from the Consumer Protection.

If VC are losing customers because of this then clearly the other operators are as well since they also have roughly the same policy surely?

I could'nt understand in the first place why my former service provider (emptyn) could'nt just stop deducting money from my account. The retarded consultant said that the WASP had to inform them to stop. This was off-course absolute bull****. Luckily for me I got my money back and they stopped billing me. my point is, through fraudulent conduct I was paying for a service that I never used. My service provider religiously deducted money without even confirming with me that I have subscribed to the rubbish. My take is that the cell companies were and still is all complicit with this theft. So please vodacon don't even try to play saviour. If it was'nt for the CPA then you would not have introduced these measures.

Didn't the cellphone operators give birth to this filth in the first place?
