Hi there all hopefully you can give me advice.
A few months ago I signed up for the 2 years adsl contract that comes with a free modem.
Everything was installed in time and was running smoothly until the first months account arrived. Needless to say they charged me for the modem. I went and paid the account and brought it to their attention that I had signed a 2year contract and didnt have to pay for the modem. I paid the account minus the charge of the modem. That went on for 2 months till they sorted it out on the account. It has come to my attention that they have put a slow payer on my record at ITC can you beleive the cheek. I am really peeed off because I have applied for a bond and am concerned that this will affect my credit worthiness. Please has anybody got any advice for me. I will really appreciate it.

Take care

I had a similar problem a few years ago, they tried to blacklist my ex's name and I got hold of Telkom's Legal Department and spoke to an Indian gentleman, (he is very firm on his decisions, be polite but also firm, he will help you, he listens to reason, don't get carried away remain calm) I cannot remember his name but, explained what had happened and within hours they removed it.

If I am not mistaken he is in charge of those issues.

Good luck

Cant you sue for something like that?

In this case he can sue but, keep in mind that we are talking about Telkom, he must first try to get it sorted out the charming way first. Nothing has been refused yet so, before it gets to its final steps try to contact the Legal Department.

If he can't get the bond approved due to that lapse from Telkom he certainly can sue.

You can complain and get it rectified
yip - there might be a legal way if for example you could show that your bond app was refused because of the telkom entry - i.e. you actually suffer some sort of monetary loss

it will not be much tho and practically the only way to sort this is to jump thru all the hoops as many times as you need to...phone, follow up by fax, phone, etc etc etc until it gets done

/as an aside i not a bad idea for anyone to check their credit listing - cheap and quick online and can be interesting to see just who is asking about your financial info......chances are that something will be wrong somewhere

i don't see why he would have to lick their backsides to get it sorted out. Telkom messed up, they must sort it out!. I would sue.

yeah it sux but from experience the pragmatic approach is going to save you time and money

You should log onto the ITC site, they are not only there to list any defaults but also act as a representative for you against the company, and to enlist the help of an ombudsman.

There is a credit ombudsman - ITC or Experian will give you his contact details. If you do not come right with them, PM me and I will find it for you.

Having to pay for information on yourself is ridiculous.

Does the Access to Information act not dictate that when a person makes one of these requests about oneself that there is to be no fee involved.

Where have I signed away my right to Telkom that they may give this sort of information out? (Not that I have ever missed a payment).

Take a peek @ this page. http://www.itc.co.za/tuitc_truecredit/index.asp?URL=creditprofiles.asp&TRSiteMenuID=2. I find it this statement particularly aggrivating "Your credit profile is then tarnished and may hinder your ability to make credit purchases in future, not to mention possible legal issues."

The new credit bill makes provision for requesting your credit profile - at no charge. ITC currently (last I heard) have refused to do this until such time as the bill is signed into law.
They must however still give you the ombudsman's details - lodge a complaint there, and the ombudsman can take things further.
Also, give Experian a call - they provide credit info as well. (011 799 3400 if memory serves)

Unlucky

Yeah, just phone in & tell them you want it off, that they should have accurate records & enough communication within their communication company to get this kind of information to the correct departments to avoid situations like this:mad:

I wouldn't even be polite, ofcourse try but as soon as you start speaking to these guys you'll realise how useless they are & it tends to go downhill from there for me..........really

when you apply for the home loan

make it clear to them what happened will help you if you honest with them

Also, banks are not stupid - a "slow payment" reflected in your payment profile (as someone exampled above) more often than not is a stuff up by the credit grantor (NOT the bureau). Telkom is flugging useless when it comes to their data - and banks most likely know this anyways. They look primarily for judgements and collections etc, not these odds and ends. Also, they know full well that if you do pay something late, it more often than not is NOT your bond - that you will pay first.

i worked for a certain popular home loan company

they check judgements, if its over i think R3000, then they refuse u, they have like a quota limit on each type of dent in ur profile. so "slow payer" is hardly gonna have any effect on ur ability to get that home loan, as long as u pay they'll take u on.

they also check if u took any loans to start a business, or if u have a business with any debt.

if ur propertly is larger than 2 acres, then they wont finance.

oh yea btw it wasnt me that posted, it happened to the parents of mine. quite bad actually. i prefer iburst's crap before i get into all the hassle with telkom.

Process To Follow When You Have A Dispute

PROCESS TO FOLLOW WHEN YOU HAVE A DISPUTE

1.First, contact the relevant Credit Bureaux and obtain a copy of your report!to find out the exact nature of the listing/s (there can be a charge for this service):

a.Transunion ITC (consumers and businesses) 0861 482 482 b.Experian Bureau (consumers) 0861 10 5665 c.Kredit Inform (businesses) 011 777 2700 d.Micro Lenders Credit Bureau (MLCB) 0861 28 73 28 e.Compuscan(also for microlending issues) 0861 514 131

2.If you dispute any of the information on your report, lodge a query with the Credit Bureaux, giving them all the facts of the case.

3.Get a reference number, and the name of the person you speak to. Make a note of the date and time of your call.

4.Allow a maximum of 30 days for the Credit Bureaux to resolve the query.

5.If your query is still unresolved after 30 days, or if you are not satisfied with the resolution by the Credit Bureaux, then contact our call centre at 0861 66 28 37 or go to www.creditombud.org.za and submit a complaint form (quoting the reference number from the Credit Bureau).

6.If your query is within our jurisdiction, we will then launch an investigation FREE OF CHARGE, and you may be contacted to provide additional detailed information about your case.

7.Your case will then be forwarded to the organization/s who listed you for their response.

8.Once the CIO has all the facts of the case, we will negotiate a settlement or make a ruling.

9.If you are satisfied with the CIO decision – case closed, BUT if you are not happy, you can take alternative legal action.

10.Please be very careful of dealing with so-called ‘credit repair agents’ who promise to remove valid listings for an upfront fee. This practice is illegal, and you could end up spending your money with no result.
