Valid point. Any revelation that could affect their share price is in contravention of JSE rules.
 
Squeal little piggies, squeal! It is always "closed season" at Telkom.

throwing in the comment re it probably being a consequence of ICASA's poor planning (which may well be true although they are working to tight deadlines) was a little gratuitous and sums up their attitude to the whole thing

Should have stuck to the facts. Was it the ex-councillor who got in the dig?
 
Of course Telkom waits till now to point out it their close period, not when they were notified about the meetings.
 
I'm confused. Annual results were released in June. Why is Telkom supposed to be in a closed period now?

-ah! nevermind Didn't realise it was in place for interim results as well.

Is this allowed? Should they be allowed to work out possible private deals or I'll-scratch-your-back-if-you-scratch-mine kinda deals on their own behind closed doors?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Will the other attendees be complaining about this?
 
As far as I understand the closed period doesn't prohibit Telkom from releasing financial information. It only means that it must first be published via SENS.
 
Now Telkom wants to play victim. ICASA must show some balls. If anything, quickly admit that was a small mistake and then proceed with slamming Telkom.

Bring on the LLU at any cost.
 
I'm sorry, but shouldn't Telkom have provided this information before the hearing? Oh this just tiring. I can understand a company - and they are just a company - trying to hold on to its profits. But Telkom is just a bunch of thugs... And they are half owned by the bloody government!! They have the most say! You'd really think the gov would try and keep things orderly and beneficial to the citizens of this country.. I'm so tired.

Maybe if you have an "Open Season" you wouldn't always be in this K@k Telkom...
 
Emotions aside

Emotions aside. Let's discuss Telkom's argument :

- should Icasa be soliciting views from presenters on the whether Telkom should be structured differently ?
- should icasa be asking presenters what they think of Telkoms profits?
- should Icasa be asking Vodacom how Telkom determines the price of ADSL ? Is Vodacom willing to tell us how they determine the price of a mobile call or mobile data?
- should ices be asking presenters about Telkom's accounting system ?

All this if they wanted to ask, why did they not include in the discussion document? Because they knew it was outside the scope of LLU regulation. Trying to build their political profile by attacking Telkom?

If Icasa wants to build reputation, NEUTRALITY and demonstrable integrity is the way. BIAS is written all over these hearings
